He's going to finish at least the rest of the season. That way the buyout will be cheaper.

Yes, the season is more or less over. Finish out the Cluster FOXtrot, save a few bucks, and cut him lose.

If a change was going to be made during the season it would have been made back in January. Fox is going to be allowed to stagger over the finish line and then a decision will be made.

Re: Ga Suthin game
Game aside we’re in a tough spot to make Sunbelt post season. We’re basically in a crappy foot race with Troy and UALR for those last couple spots. We’ve got tie breaker over UALR and they’ve got a tough schedule so two wins likely puts us up & over. If we lose to Troy it simply doesn’t happen. Conversely the head to head win & another probably gets us there.

Re: Ga Suthin game
Why wouldn’t we? As stated earlier, if we were going to fire him this year wouldn’t/shouldn’t we have done that when we still had a chance to turn the season around?
Why would we let him finish out the regular season and then fire him before his buyout drops significantly?
Seems like that is the worst of both worlds.

Re: Ga Suthin game
IIRC it only drops by $50,000 this offseason. And the reason to fire him before that is so you can get the new coach in place to start recruiting, meet the team, go on the YC tour, etc. And to give the outgoing staff a fair chance to start seeking new jobs. (And to start your search before everyone else has filled their openings and possibly hired some of the candidates you’d have been interested in.)The Rock wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 5:48 amWhy wouldn’t we? Re: Ga Suthin game
Can someone post the exact buyout amounts for firing today, after the end of the season, and after June 1? I think the first two might be the same.

Thanks.
So yeah, no difference between today vs after the season, and only $50,000 difference between today and June 1.

Good luck wherever life leads you next Fox. Thanks for bringing us out of the APR nightmare and upgrading the overall talent on the roster.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 8:40 am“There’s not really much to say,” App State coach Jim Fox said. “We just got beat bad.”

I understand that, and of course it’s nice to get someone in place for recruiting purposes, but as we saw with our football hire, putting the right person in place will get the recruits even if it’s a little later than hoped for.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 8:57 amIIRC it only drops by $50,000 this offseason. If we are firing him, I still don’t understand why we are waiting. We could get a head start on the coaching search and show our students, remaining coaching staff and general fan base we are trying and see what our assistants can do on their own .
If waiting is not based on monetary decisions why should we agonize through the rest of the season?

Re: Ga Suthin game
July 1 is four months after our season will end. If we’d waited that long to hire a football coach, we’d still be a month and a half away from making the hire. The Rock wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 10:02 amI understand that, and of course it’s nice to get someone in place for recruiting purposes, but as we saw with our football hire, putting the right person in place will get the recruits even if it’s a little later than hoped for.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 8:57 amIIRC it only drops by $50,000 this offseason. You simply can’t wait around that long with a lame duck coach. The incoming recruits would have enrolled in summer school by then. And all that for relative chump change.
I totally agree we should have fired Fox weeks ago. Just saying we won’t wait until July 1 to do it. He’s either gone shortly after the season or he’s back next year.
