Recruited some quality players at Wofford, turned Presbyterian around in a short period, overall pretty good coaching experience, his name is not Buzz, his name is not Capel, he wasn't hired by Cobb. Sounds like a good hire to me.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Why not take a proven product that has expressed a desire to come to App over a startup with an extremely limited track record? Seems like a major gamble. We were blessed to have a quality coach like Lutz want to come to our dismal program, and we pass. I don't understand this one. Something profound must have happened for DG to pick Kerns over Lutz, and we'll probably never know the details. Best of luck to Coach Kerns.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
We just had App's old beat writer Brant Wilkerson-New (now covers ACC for the Greensboro paper) on our sports talk show...I asked him his initial thoughts on the hire. He said "here's a guy who knows how to turn around a program that has no real history and be successful".

I was hoping for Lutz, but Kerns seems to be a good fit. Looking forward to next season!

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
I would say that Kerns improved Presbyterian's program. He was only there two years. You can't really say that he turned things around. How his successor does there will determine that.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 5:18 pmWe just had App's old beat writer Brant Wilkerson-New (now covers ACC for the Greensboro paper) on our sports talk show...I asked him his initial thoughts on the hire. He turned it around , from nothing to post season wins. His successor will either sustain it or he won’t.

He improved it, from nothing to post season wins. His successor will either complete the turn around or he won't. What you saw from Kerns at Presbyterian was an improvement. They could easily fall back to 9-20 next season. That's no turn around.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Seems to me that you're nit-picking and trying to parse words. Since Kerns will not be at PC next year, he won't be there to sustain the success that he had there. With a few newbie players, a new coaching staff, new terminology, a new coaching philosophy and new team rules there are no guarantees for PC's future. In addition, the next PC coach may not be ready for the role of HC. (We actually know a little about that.)Arsenal App wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 7:32 pmHe improved it, from nothing to post season wins. His successor will either complete the turn around or he won't. With all of the positives we can list about ASU FB, there are zero guarantees about next season's success. Drink said it himself. He's forcing the team to drink changes from a fire hose. Drink is messing with stuff that isn't broken. Whatever happens of a negative nature as a result of the massive amount of change won't reflect negatively on Scott Satterfield.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Not a very inspiring hire that will immediately get people fired up. But maybe our people were not able to make one of those hires. Kerns has had one year of success in a fairly weak conference. Then PC bought its way into the little tournament. I hope it works out well for Appalachian State. We need something good to happen on the hardwood. It's been a while.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Fox had *0 seasons of HC success, yet it seemed to be a sexy hire because he was associated with Steph Curry and a “decently” legendary coach in Mckillop. If Kerns would have had 3 more seasons of 20+ wins at PC you people would be up DG’s ass for not hiring him now. I respect his decision for pulling the trigger on an up and coming coach.

Yep. I think/hope “fit” is the key with Kerns over other prospects.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 5:20 pmI was hoping for Lutz, but Kerns seems to be a good fit. Looking forward to next season!

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Our MBB program is in shambles so I’m excited for some new blood. I hope Coach Kerns is dynamite and makes us the winning program I expect.
Personally, he doesn’t move the needle for me. The same way the Coach Drinkwitz hire didnt and still doesn’t.
DG seems to like a certain type of guy. But that’s why he’s the AD and I’m some guy on a couch. I sure hope I’m wrong, but I got a real weird feeling.
Anyways, here’s the presser for Coach Kerns when he took the Presby job.

Kerns will do okay if he's half the coach Bobby Dodd and Buck Van Huss were.

It’s sad, Buck was 6 wins shy of being the winningest high school coach ever when he passed away.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 10:44 pmKerns will do okay if he's half the coach Bobby Dodd and Buck Van Huss were.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
After what we've been through the past decade , I am absolutely on Coach Kerns team. I haven't had season tickets since I moved out of "winter driving distance" but I will this year to show my support.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
After browsing at Kerns’ roster at Presby, I’m even more impressed that he won 20 games in year 2 on the job. He had virtually zero players who were offered by other d1 schools and still managed to win 20, go 12-3 at home, and beat every higher ranked conference team other than Radford at least once.
