Re: Kerns Extended
Nice. Hope he gets settled and in. Would love to have him as long as possible. I was at app 91-95. Varsity Gym, worst arena ever, but they had a decent atmosphere. Students showed up etc. What is the disconnect to moving to a nicer arena, not far away. Maybe the FB program can help boost the fans for BB.

Loved Varsity Gym. Atmosphere loud right on campus. Since the move occurred have we had anything to get excited about ? Also VG had less optional entertainment to compete with. Obviously never attended a game in Holme as a student so can’t make that comparison but the several I’ve been to we’re just a basketball game. Hopefully Coach Kerns can put together something that will get the students excited.yosef95 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 6:16 pmNice. Hope he gets settled and in. Doubtful. And I agree that the extension is nice but it won’t stop him from leaving. Hope DG increased the buyout as a precaution.

Re: Kerns Extended
The BOT met Thursday and Friday (livestream/telecom). The meeting agenda included action items for athletics and an executive session. Having an executive session means that HR items like performance evals, salary recommendations, working conditions and contract language would have been discussed in the absence of the news media and the general public. Anything agreed to during the closed session would require approval by the board in a final open session.
Warning, buzz kill!
Unless reporters stayed until the "bitter end" (and sometimes they don't), we may not get that info until after the June 17th BOT session. The minutes of last week's meeting won't be up for approved until then. Unless the info gets leaked, it won't be "officially" official and available to see in writing until the minutes have been approved.

What you are saying here makes perfect sense - my question what you might think was discussed?asu66 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 4:46 pmThe BOT met Thursday and Friday (livestream/telecom). Unfortunately, I'm afraid we aren't out of the woods yet. Kerns is still a hot commodity and the coaching carousel has a lot of spinning left to do.

I’m not sure that “Hot Commodity” is totally accurate. He has interviewed, but the sense I get is that he hasn’t been a must have hire.

Re: Kerns Extended
Bootsy does raise a fair point. The NABC https://nabc.com/landing/index starts tomorrow and runs through Friday. It's a virtual convention this year, but the online connections that collegiate institutions will have available to contact prospective coaches and to conduct one-on-one conversations through normal channels and by way of the convention electronic hub will be almost limitless. Unfortunately, the resignations, firings and hirings aren't over yet and the climate won't come into complete focus for another two or three weeks.
If DK is still with us on Friday, April 16, we can relax for a few months...maybe!

Re: Kerns Extended
This just is a coach from a mid-major program went to the dance and is being considered for other jobs.
That program signed the coach to an extension.
The coach is still desirable.
Is anyone really surprised by any of this?

Re: Kerns Extended
Coach Kerns might want to give serious consideration to where Scott Satterfield is now career wise. Satterfield built a highly successful program and then took the first big offer that came his way. Sure, he has loads of money in his pockets but is now dealing with a ton of other issues at U of L.
Only 2 years in at a D1 school, I don't see Kerns as a sizzling hot commodity that a big name P5 program would take a chance on (yet). He probably needs to prove himself more and continue to build his resume for that opportunity to present itself. A move to another mid major would be disappointing at best. Interesting times ahead as always!

Re: Kerns Extended
Shaka Smart going from VCU to Texas to Marquette is another example of the pressures to perform.

Re: Kerns Extended
Considering all the drama that has been swarming around the Texas athletic department for the last ~10 years, I think Marquette is the more desirable job.
