Charlotte coming to Holmes...
So can we drop the whole Judy won't play you guys thing? I said in a few threads that I thought we would start the series with you guys back up.
Hope you guys are ready for Niner Nation to take over Holmes - not that that's too hard to do given your avg attendance.

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
Should be interesting. Last two games against UNCC in Boone have gone to 5 combined overtimes.
Hard to have too much confidence in App basketball but I certainly give the home team a chance.

LOL What is funny is there aren't too many Niner's with much confidence in us these days either, but I am sure there will be a crowd there.asumike83 wrote:Should be interesting. Last two games against UNCC in Boone have gone to 5 combined overtimes.

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
Looks like Judy finally got over herself. It only took 5 years.
NWA, it wasn't that she wouldn't schedule us, it was that she demanded a 2 for 1 like you guys are a big deal or something.
Maybe she'll answer our calls from the football office now that logical thinking has made it's way to Harrisburg.

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
Good move for both schools.
We should play in basketball and baseball every year, and football at least every other year.
Judy I see you have an opening for an away game in 2015 for football.
In Boone 2015
In Charlotte 2017
Make it happen.

I think the games in Boone and Charlotte should bring a bigger contingent of visiting fans than usual. Y'all will bring a crowd up the mountain and I'm sure the App folks in Charlotte (myself included) will show up at Halton.NWA49 wrote:LOL What is funny is there aren't too many Niner's with much confidence in us these days either, but I am sure there will be a crowd there.asumike83 wrote:Should be interesting. As much as both fan bases love to hate one another, it is a no-brainer. I really hope the schools can make Saint's home and home football series suggestion happen. No reason the schools shouldn't face each other in baseball annually either. Both fan bases are interested and it is great for travel costs.

I expect football to happen - but not until we are on equal footing with our feet under us. For us that means FBS with a full roster ans some experience for you guys it means FBS with a full FBS roster.Gonzo wrote:Looks like Judy finally got over herself. It only took 5 years.

I also think it had far more to do with a new coaching staff than anything with Judy. I am not a big fan of hers, but based on my talks with her I doubt she was dictating scheduling down to that level.
And that is no different that you guys demanding we travel to Boone for football or only playing us downtown. We both like to think we are a bigger deal in each sport than we really are.

The difference is, we both play basketball at the same exact level (mid-major division 1).NWA49 wrote:I also think it had far more to do with a new coaching staff than anything with Judy. Only one of us plays football and has a football tradition.
And don't even start going into the "we have basketball tradition!" because that ship has long sailed!

Tradition: an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom)AppStateCentral wrote:The difference is, we both play basketball at the same exact level (mid-major division 1).NWA49 wrote:I also think it had far more to do with a new coaching staff than anything with Judy. We do have basketball tradition. Post season appearances on a pretty regular basis. And have far more tradition there than you guys. Yes your tradition in football trumps ours.

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
I'm glad you can read and post a definition. It is not any kind of secret that when talking about tradition in sports (especially college) is a completely different definition. A team can quickly lose a tradition when they start falling of the level that created the tradition. If you call the state of your current basketball program having a tradition then I really feel bad for your fan base.NWA49 wrote:We do have basketball tradition. Yes, you guys used to be really good.. used to be. Now, you are on the same level as the Wofford's and App State's of the mid major basketball world. We all have our good seasons, but most of the time, we are mediocre (at best).
But, that point aside, the reason for that post was to Judy demanding a 2 for 1 in basketball is nothing like us demanding a start up program to come to Boone. That is an apples to oranges comparison because of the already mentioned reasons.

Same level as App State basketball? We had a 20 win season last year, beat multiple NCAA teams, and played in a post season tournament. We average 6,000 in attendance, you guys averaged 1,700. Big difference there.
I think a home and home is very good considering you may not even be eligible for post season play.

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
To say that App BBall/UNCC football and App football/UNCC is an equal comparison is the most asinine thing ever posted in this forum. Does our BBall team start its first year this year with a schedule padded with D-2 schools and NAIA's?
I'll be the first to welcome the most delusional fanbase in America back to the MMB.

When it comes to college basketball, yes, in the grand scheme of things, you guys are on the same level of us.afinerniner wrote:Same level as App State basketball? There are the BCS teams
There are the good mid majors that are always there (Davidson, VCU, Wichita St., etc.)
There are the mediocre to bad teams (App State and Charlotte are in here) that have their good seasons
Just a comparison of records the past 5 years for you..
App State is 85-79
Charlotte is 78-81
So, if you think having a losing record over the last 5 years means you are head and shoulders above us (who actually has a winning record), then you are only kidding yourselves.
Here is the break down of season to season. I am only human so I might have missed some, but either way, I didn't miss THAT many to make that big of a difference. Like it or not, App and Charlotte are on the same level when it comes to basketball.
08-09 -- App: 14-18 -- Charlotte: 12-20
09-10 -- App: 25-13 -- Charlotte: 20-12
10-11 -- App: 17-15 -- Charlotte: 11-20
11-12 -- App: 14-17 -- Charlotte: 14-17
12-13 -- App: 15-16 -- Charlotte: 21-12

Re: Charlotte coming to Holmes...
This is a good start for 2 schools that should be playing each other in multiple sports every year. Arrogence of UNCC has kept the 2 schools separated for a number of years. I think App moving up in football probably made them rethink their position, and "check their egos". Anyway, I hope that within the next 4 years we can make playing UNCC in multiple sports an annual event.

From the UNCC board:
"We are going to play Appy? Ughhh. I would rather lose to Michigan or UCLA than beat Appy. Also not thrilled with playing UNCA. However next year is going to be rough, so maybe another cup cake filled schedule is a good thing."
They really do think they're Duke or something.

Maybe the most delusional fan base I've ever witnessed. Harrisburg U needs a reality check. They do have a decent basketball tradition but it's just that, decent.

Yeah, they're a bunch of douchenozzles over there, but then we've acquired our share here as well.Gonzo wrote:From the UNCC board:

And let's be honest, we'll probably only be good for dragging down their RPI next year. I wouldn't be thrilled either.
