That was a good win. Every win like that matters. We may actually be building something here.

Well they shot 51% from the field, 42% from 3 and hit 87.5% from the line and we still won by double digits. They may be scrappy, but I don't see them playing much better than that.
Our 89% from the line is wonderful to see . . .

Nice win in a tough place to win. Won't gloat too much my daughter is QUC alum.AppinVA wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 8:57 pmQueens had me thinking about these posts a couple of times. But we played well enough to win. Hopefully, this one gets us on the right foot for the next two in-state games.asu66 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 6:06 pm
Like you, Jerry, I've also been down this road a time or 2 or maybe just a few more! Almost no matter who we're playin', I still get that certain queasy feelin' when we're on the road to face a team that's unbeaten on their home hardwood, is averaging 82 ppg and hits 72% of their F-Ts. Perhaps our bigs-in-da-paint and our "D" will rule the evening.
Oh yeah, #TeamKerns

Gregory 1st half MVP.
Huntley pretty much won the game in 2nd half.
Game was a little too fast for Abson tonight. He will get back to being a force soon.

Dat free throw stat. 14/16 from the line. Points off turnovers and steals were the difference as Queens shot pretty well.
That's Queens first home OOC loss in D1.

I actually like their small gym, good fan turnout. I can see how that is a very hard place to play.

We had some lapses but yes it’s hard to win at a D1. They have some quickness and shooters. Appreciate DK getting us a game in Charlotte after Concord bailed on us.

They’re deceptive. Their record says “average” but they’ve put up a ton of points this season.

Felt like Kerns coached to make the game tighter than it needed to be, but I’m ok with that. Good in game experiences, not calling a timeout he normally would.
Gregory wanted to show he was the best player on the court tonight, makes sense given the CLT presence.

I wouldn't have signed any football games with UNCC until they commit to yearly series in hoops and baseball. Why should we sellout their stadium with nothing in return?

Did a simple Google search to see if UNCC played tonight and loved the fact that Google wanted to verify if I was actually looking for UNC.

Re: @ Queens 12/13 in Charlotte
Game was fun tonight, thought we put them away a few times but they kept fighting back. #6 didn’t miss from 3 and they had several guys that could penetrate and score. You could tell we had better talent but it was cool to see them compete.
I was one of the first people there for the game. Queens attendants kept trying to seat all App people in the section behind the bench. I was like, we’re not all going to fit. It seemed at least 50% of the fans were App. Thought it was a good showing. Hope they have us back!

Re: @ Queens 12/13 in Charlotte
It was a good game. Feel like we need to get better on D...which is unusual to say for a DK team. Auburn missed a ton of 3s when they were open or somewhat open and dribble penetration hurt us tonight to what I consider not a very good team. It is early still yet. Just my opinion. Yes, it is more difficult to win on the road. Players like the home surroundings and home rims. The game in Gboro and hickory are like road games given not at Holmes. This will be good for the team for conference play

Google's got something going there; most UNCC graduates I know only care about Carolina in sports.RaleighApp27609 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 9:55 pmDid a simple Google search to see if UNCC played tonight and loved the fact that Google wanted to verify if I was actually looking for UNC.

Guess we are at the one third mark for the season. I'll take 8-2. Oregon State was a disappointing loss but they are a respectable 6-3 right now. Announcer last night said Kerns had said he has 9 starters. That doesn't sound like a wrong statement.

Re: @ Queens 12/13 in Charlotte
My thought is that they were tough to defend because their 5 (#6) hung out around the 3 point line and the rest of the players were guards. If Abson, Spillers or CJ stayed in, he was knocking down 3’s. If they went out to guard him, it left no help in the lane. Also, it was ridiculous how many of their 3’s and floaters were falling in when defender was in their face and playing good D. Also, our quickness on offense was neutralized, but CJ, Gregory and Spillers dominated with their size. Donovan must have run the same ISO post play 8 times and scores every time. I thought that was amazing. Spillers also had a double double.

Up to 45 in the NET rankings. So for G-W and UNCA, since both games are on neutral courts, we're a Quad One opponent for them.

Something clicked during the UNCW 2nd half and we haven't looked back. Offense looks much better than ever, our defense is as strong as ever. It's been a fun ride so far, hope it's no where close to over

Re: @ Queens 12/13 in Charlotte
I happened to be at the same place as the Queens basketball reunion and spoke with the head coach. Cool dude, I talked about his good game plan with bringing his 5 out to take Abson out of the lane and attacking with his 4 guards. He was very complimentary of our team and was grateful to be competitive against us. That is all.
