We NEVER packed 25,000 into KBS for a FCS playoff game (or 1AA playoff game). The ONLY playoff game in KBS from 2000-2012 that even drew over 20,000 fans was the Richmond game on 12-7-2007 and we drew 24140 fans on that game. The vast majority of the 18 playoff games had attendance between 12000-16000 and 3 had attendance under 6500. I recall on the old boards lots of complaining about lack of attendance at the playoff games because they were usually not as well attended as our regular season games. Now your point still remains the same in that football is supported with far greater numbers often in worse weather, but it was never as high as 25,000.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:43 amSo the reason whole sections are empty is "Brrr, I'm not going out there?"
We'd regularly pack 25,000 into KBS in frigid temperatures for FCS playoff games. This basketball team is in a race to win the conference and the game is played indoors. If we can't get enough local support to fill the lower bowl against a rival it's not because it's cold, it's because not enough locals care.
This is it for CJ Huntley and Myles Tate, two of the best players we've ever had come through this program. They were loyal when half a dozen players from last year bailed on us for greener pastures. CJ and Myles deserve packed stands, not empty sections.
Last thing I'll say is *21,000 attended UNC-NC State Wednesday night when the roads were apparently so bad that "anyone who can get here gets in free". As much as I hate giving UNC any flowers, that's what a local community that cares looks like.
*21,000 is what's reported. The eye test shows at least the lower bowl was slam packed. Upper bowl was not.

I’m guessing those 3 under 6500 were on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I always enjoyed being there for those. It wasn’t packed but the fans that were there were dedicated and loud.t4pizza wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:58 pmWe NEVER packed 25,000 into KBS for a FCS playoff game (or 1AA playoff game). Probably a few more were there than reported, as the NCAA took a good sized chunk of the ticket revenue for themselves. Soooo, it was a common practice to undercount attendance.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:12 pmI’m guessing those 3 under 6500 were on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We should have just renovated Varsity Dump.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:54 amNot that we can do anything about it, but Holmes is WAY too big. No reason our basketball arena should be more than 4,500 seats.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:52 amOn a regular basis during the week especially virtually 95% (or more) of those sideline seats on the bench side- no idea on the other side as the camera rarely shows it, are those sold tickets? It’s been mentioned a few times but why can’t students move into those empty seats during the week when there is nobody sitting in them? It looks awful with a virtually empty arena.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:43 amWe'd regularly pack 25,000 into KBS in frigid temperatures for FCS playoff games. Students were asked and they got the sections they wanted. We had some nice crowds last season , of course we were on a roll. I do know some people that have been turned off by “ pay to play “ and the loss of talent to the highest bidder.

This isn’t a football attendance discussion, it’s a basketball one. You’re focused on the part of the story.t4pizza wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:58 pmWe NEVER packed 25,000 into KBS for a FCS playoff game (or 1AA playoff game). Re: MBB vs Georgia Southern Thu, 2/20 6:30pm
The Students should get the seats away from the camera and a spot should be made lower for the camera for TV coverage. Our TV coverage is embarrassing. I make it to as many games as I can in person, but when I watch from home I listen to the radio broadcast and shake my head at the camera angles knowing we have plenty of space for better camera positions. When I watch other away game coverages they are much better. Same for our football coverage. (We don't have extra spots for football cameras without giving up seats)
Back to the original point. Students are needed for attendance numbers to go up. We should give them any and everything they want. If the students ever stop attending our football games, I am not sure our attendance numbers will be all that great for football. Better than most G5 but getting up their with p4 schools. Many P4 schools don't get the student participation we get at football games.
