I’m not saying that to bash JMU (well, yes I am actually) because every school likely has a program like this now that can be a catch-all for transfer athletes if their original course of study does not completely transfer.

Players of the past 20 years or so, close to 100% of them, think they are better than they really are. It only takes one or two people (a parent or a friend or an internet buddy) to tell them they aren’t being played enough, and they’re gone.

We can always count on our sanctimonious board troll to emerge from under his bridge and take cheap shots whenever he can.

Hard to imagine rolling through life either bitching and moaning or finding fault and negative in just about everything. Sad

I have tried to stick with this team but they just have too many transfers. Makes it hard to even pull for them. Guess I will stick with the football team until the powers that be can figure this out and hold onto players.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
We have done a horrible job of retaining HS recruits. Wilson is the only non Freshman HS recruit that saw minutes really (outside of Huntley). Everyone else was a transfer or JUCO. Seems to be a massive disconnect between when we recruit kids and then they enroll and are gone within 6 months of being on campus. Stuff happens, but it’s happening too often.
Still winning games though so kudos to the staff and players.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
I wonder what the percentage is (maybe over the last 3 years or so) of all high school scholarship athletes who have remained at the school who chose them? I’m willing to bet it’s a high number. As diehard fans we focus solely on the basketball and football players at the better schools. I’m sure there are still plenty of kids who don’t envision some pro career and still value the free ride. I’m willing to bet the number who stay is closer to 98% if you consider all sports.311neers wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 12:24 pmWe have done a horrible job of retaining HS recruits. The problem is, if they’re good like Abson, they leave for a paycheck. And if they’re not good enough to get sufficient playing time, they leave for potential of more playing time. The only other scenario is when someone doesn’t play within the system and is nudged out.

We’re 2 for 11 with HS recruits the 2020-2023 cycles still on the team. Let’s hope some of the 2024 class returns next year.

Where college athletics is concerned, I'm finding it difficult to draw conclusions about anything.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
AI says that "Given the factors influencing transfers (lack of playing time, desire to attend a school they think better fits their personal goals) therefore it is it is reasonable to assume that less than 50% of high school basketball players who sign a D1 scholly will stay with the same school from one year to the next. It says its important to note that this is an estimate. This is because there is no readily available stats that track this specific scenario.

Ezeagu portal. Free’s up a scholarship. Don’t think he played but a couple games.
Out- Ezeagu Muttilib, Alston so far.
Huntley, Tate, Threadgill, Beaubrun
out of eligibility.
7 scholarships outgoing total.
3 incoming freshman. Currently leaves 4 open scholarships? We’re going to be really young next year again.
Math might need correcting, was a Parks and Rec major…
