Eligibility Question

Unread post by asutrnr81 » Sun Dec 01, 2013 8:11 pm

If a kid signs and plays for a community college:

1. When is he eligible to "sign" with a program not at the CC level?
2. If this is his first year does he have 3 years of eligibility left?
3. Are there questions I did not think of that any of you would have thought I should ask?

I believe NCAA rules say he can sign at any time and he will only lose eligibility for however many years he played at the CC. He will not have to sit out a year as a transfer.

It seems to me that most CC players weren't Division I eligible coming out of HS and gained eligibility by finishing community college. If that's the case you can't transfer up after your first year. Most players who are eligible and don't get an offer they like seem to go to prep school so that they preserve all 4 years of eligibility, which makes them more attractive recruits the following year.

Thanks, and your explaination helped me in other ways....He choose CC because he really could not afford the Prep--School option. And he was NOT eligible out of HS. But he is a heck of an athlete. I will keep my eyes open and see who is coaching next year before making a recommendation.

Thanks
