Belmont Abbey MBB @ ASU 7 PM Tonite HCC

OK, it's roundball time (of the basketball ilk) and Belmont Abbey's in town to engage Jim Fox's second edition Apps. Mind you, this IS NOT Al McGuire's Belmont Abbey. Yeah, That Al McGuire. He won't be here and neither will his team of Irish Catholic players from NYC's Manhatten, Bronx and Queens boroughs.

Instead, The Abbey will travel with a head coach from WCU and players mostly from the Piedmont of NC--a team that won just two games last season. Huge difference from the Abbey teams of old.

It doesn't matter. The Apps are ready to beat up on someone else for a change. So exhibition basketball it will be beginning at 7 PM at HCC.

David and Randy Jackson will have some live coverage during tonight's Mountaineet Talk broadcasting live from The Rock Bar & Grill on Blowing Rock Road.

LiveStats will also be available here... http://www.appstatesports.com/liveStats ... M_ID=21500
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Turned it around in the second. We've played 18 players tonight...

Hopefully Coach Fox and the guys got some valuable experience as they start the season.

Also wanted to congratulate Belmont Abbey's Spencer Wilson on making his college debut tonight. Wilson, a graduate of my alma mater Bishop McGuinness in the Triad, is a cancer survivor highlighted on the ESPN E:60 program last year after a dramatic game-winning shot after dedicating the game to a friend and fellow basketball player who recently lost his battle with cancer.

Fox still behind the Capel 8ball. Will take 2 more years to get this fixed.

I went to the first half tonight and had to leave. Even though we struggled and were down 1, you could tell these freshman may be special for us and seem to be a different athlete than we have recruited in the past.

Yes he's digging out but there is hope! Shabazz, Logan, and Johnson look promising.

It's going to be a tough year to watch college BB if the refs are being encouraged to call screens as tight as they did tonight. Seemed like every time someone set a screen they were whistled. I realize that it was a warm up game for the refs as well but the amount of offensive fouls were absurd.

An absolutely horribly refereed game. The refs blew the whistle seemingly every possession, so there wasn't really any flow besides a couple instances. Our freshman look very, very good though. Shabazz is a better athlete and defensive player than I can remember us ever having at the SG/SF position, Johnson is a great rebounder and can really stretch the floor, and Logan already has a good hold on the offense and is pretty daggum quick. I like our future.

Remember we beat Lees-McRae by 2 in our exhibition last year.

Progress!
