No disrespect East but I don't see an overreaction. It is what it is at this point. Fox has his work cut out and I believe he will certainly build us a good program in due time. We had no inside game last night and spent the shot clock passing around the perimeter until shot clock was ready to expire. Couple that with the out of position defense time and time again. I believe this team will improve as the year progresses but don't see a fast pace to that without someone like Spagnolo (last year) on the inside.

Very disappointing loss. I mean this was Furman, not Florida. We missed enough fast-breaks and uncontested layups to have won the game handily. We simply have too many old guys without basic basketball skills; and too many young ones to know if they have those skills.

When your leading scorer--a senior *leader*--leads by shooting 4-18 from the floor (22%), you know you're probably in for yet another long season.

Wait, wait, Hampton's up next. We can fix everything there. Oh, I forgot, Hampton went to the dance last March and they return some experience at every position.

Maybe we can fix it this weekend at Tulane. Bet Ed Conroy's glad he cut off his talks with Cobb about replacing Fancher a few years back.

I believe some people had expectations a bit too high for the start of this season. Our experienced post players are known to be good for rebounds and shot blocks, but their offense is inconsistent. We're going to have to hope for some of the young post players to develop into scoring threats down low to have a big improvement over last year. It's game two and half of our impact players are in year 1 or 2 so it will take some time.

I don't think anyone is throwing in the towel but the team looked lost last night offensively. It was truly amazing how many times we had to make desperation shots to beat the shot clock. I do give Furman a lot of credit though they made it very difficult for us to penetrate inside the lane. They clearly had the best freshman on the court last night, the guy is putting up 19 pts a game and our guys fits.

Was at the game last night and it has been stated previously but we have no inside game at all, no outside game, and no free throw game at all for that matter if that is a thing. Simple things like full court pressure and trapping in the corners is like brain surgery for these guys I remember specifically players running into each other and letting their guards break the press with ease. I hate calling players out but Griffin Kinney just doesn't look like a D1 basketball player. No touch around the rim, cant rebound and just not very athletic looking. We need athleticism more than anything. Oh, and someone who can make free throws.

Good lord, guys. We played a bad game. That's going to happen. You certainly have a right to your opinion, but writing on an open message board that a player isn't D-1 quality is down-right cowardly. If you hate calling out players so much, then why'd you do it?

Football season started slow last year, too. I'm hoping we have a similar turn of the switch on the hard court this season. Patience, my fellow Mountaineers. Patience.

Kinney's per-minute numbers and shooting percentages are pretty good in the first couple games. He just needs to learn to play without fouling. Seems like the wrong guy to single out.

Duke got beat by Kentucky last night. Duke must be terrible. Yes, I realize that this is not a true comparison but basketball teams often need some time to gel and for players to get in the groove. It used to be said that December games were meant for this purpose. Now maybe the same can be said for November. Way too early to go so overboard. I think that college hoops has changed dramatically. There are not a handful of super teams that stomp everyone anymore. On any given night most any team can be beaten by a team believed to be way more inferior.

My assessment of last night has absolutely nothing to do with whether we won or lost. It was a poor performance. If you don't take my word for it, then take Coach Fox at his word. He himself said that he never thought we were in the game even though we actually lead at points in the second half.

It is early and the season is long. Fox and company did improve as the season progressed last year and I trust that he can accomplish the same. I admit that I had some higher expectations for this year's squad and wasn't prepared to see this team with a mix of vets and heralded newcomers struggle so mightily on offense. Quite frankly, at times they looked clueless as to attacking the Furman defense. Perhaps because so many of you seem to have such low expectations is the reason no one attends games.

Kinney has 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 fouls in two games. He is shooting over 70% thus far. He is certainly a D1 player. I'm not sure he is the answer at the post. His 9 fouls are mostly a factor of his aggressive play and the physical mismatches he faces in the paint.

No one claimed we are doomed. I don't think the end is near unless you know something the rest of us don't.

... Burgess is the bright spot.

Chris indeed is off to a great start. He is averaging 17.5 pts/game, shooting 68% from the floor and 60% from behind the arc. He also has 10 assists to only 2 TOs.

At this point, we have five players who put up at least 10 shots on the season. Collectively, they are shooting 35%. If you take out Burgess, their collective % drops to 26%. I have to believe that that will improve going forward. If not, then 78, we might be doomed.

I'm not sure what some of you were expecting after a year. Some of the criticism borders on Capelesque. Save it for year 4. We should have set expectations low for the year anyway.

I stand by my comment. He has a decent jumper but consistently gets out rebounded and abused in the paint by their big men. Its not like he is the only one that struggled I could call out every player that played for something that is just what stuck out IMO.
