It's really kind of dumb and pointless debate/argument. We made 21-29 today which is just over 72%. It's like saying a missed FG cost you a football game even if you had 3 turnovers or a bunch of dropped passes or missed tackles. All aspects of the game are important. I think the point some of us have tried to make is that we don't believe missed free throws have or will cost us a game. Don't blow easy opportunities during the game and let it come down to free throws. We left 7 points on the board but rarely does any team shoot 29-29. Gregory makes just one of those and it's a mute point. Great win! Run the table now.
An uncontested shot from 10ft away with everyone standing still is about the easiest opportunity you will get. Yes, 72% today, however bottom tier in this league alone from the free throw line will absolutely play spoiler to the hopes this team has for themselves. Got to hit the free ones. To be fair, the boys have improved and that is all you can ask for...growth.
FWIW it's 15'. Some want to think if guys practice more that they will shoot a higher percentage. You can't replicate game pressure and the pucker factor is real. Either you can shut out the noise and slow your heartbeat or you can't. Every player has the physical strength to get the ball 15'. Abson has been terrible but proved at the end what he can do.

Yep, 15. 15, 10 5, layup, still free money. They matter.

Outsiders view the SBC as being a “weak conference” this year, but we’re riding the MAC teams like a rodeo show this weekend?

Ironic…

Toledo is good. Very good. We were a little bit better. Today anyway. Tournament level slugfest at the Holmes. Throw in seeing Bobby and Kevin , certainly worth the drive.

Where is the guy that believes free throws are overrated?
I’m right here. Also, I wrote a speech about free throws, not a paper. Also, also, App had a 72.4 FT% this game, which is above average. ALSO, also, also, free throws didn’t cost App the game, which is the point I’ve made over and over again. Free throws rarely ever are the reason a game is won or lost.
A simple, “you’re right, FT’s matter” would have been the correct manly thing here. Heck of a win! Donovan will tell you that.
They matter as much as any other shot a player takes, no more, no less. Which has been my point all along. FT% =\= a good or bad team, just an aspect of that team.
Well when it’s 0-0 and your best player is on the line (75% shooter) with 2 seconds left (the exact situation), they matter.

Other moments mattered as well, right about that.
He had a big night overall but was only 4-9 from the line,

Yup, he will be the first one to tell us that he has to hit 1 FT out of 2 to win a game. Good thing we won.

My first game in Holmes this year for me (1 pm start helps with the 6 hour round trip). I was fearful that I had brought the team bad luck. Glad I was there for this one.

Sunbelt dominating the challenge... 8-2 with JMU ready to make 9-2! And the two loses (one by the Stink) were by one point each.

Well we just got a national mention by Joe Lunardi. Did he say that head to head matters or doesn't matter? I think he said that our two wins over JMU don't really matter because their NET is higher than ours.

He had them on one of his brackets as team in the hunt at 82nd overall. And Troy was his 15 seed. We weren’t listed. Tx State loss.

And JMU just beat Akron. Just keep going 1-0!!

Yes that is what he said. Why play the game if it doesn’t matter who wins . More ESPN crap!

Can’t lose to NIU Oregon State and Tx State. Just have to win the Belt now!

1 Bid conference. None of it matters until the tournament. Will be interesting to see what they do with JMU if they don’t win the conference. I’d love to see 2 bids out of the conference.

It's a long season and lots of teams can look way better in February than they did in November. It's a given that those were bad losses but it happens. Carolina and Duke both lost to a bad Tech team who has 3 conference wins. I think what Lunardi said was absolutely terrible.

I agree. Just keep winning. If 2 Sunbelt teams are sitting at 25-6, let them both in. Both teams have good wins. We can’t flop again though.

Just a cursory glance at a shot heat map will show you that a shot from the free throw line isn’t even close to the easiest or highest percentage shot on the court, guarded or unguarded.
