The sad part is, that Matt McMahon could have been our Mckillop and stayed as long as we would have had him. I think that he is/was the type that only a couple of schools could have lured him away with the offer of head coach.

With all the issues around building and running a bball program in Boone, I think we need a long term coach and not one on him way somewhere.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Unfortunately, there is no way to know what would have happened and for how long

We probably aren't capable of stealing any D1 coach. Maybe a semi-successful coach from the A-Sun or Ohio Valley who has a year or two left on his contract and isn't loved by his AD. Maybe a coach from one of the really low budget MEAC teams, but probably not. Its not just about how much we can pay a head coach. Its about how much we can pay assistants, our lack of support staff positions, our recruiting budget, our team travel budget, our lack of winning tradition, etc.

We are a low-major program that has had a few brief periods of success. Our best chance of changing that is to find a "needle in a haystack" coach two or three times in a row. Even then, one slip-up can set you way back (a la UNCW). Its a precarious existence.

It's a shame we couldn't keep Daryl Robinson. That man can flat out coach.

Seriously? No way...

I'd put Pearl wayyyy above Petrino.

Pearl lied to NCAA investigators about a damn cookout at his house.

Petrino hired a a former volleyball player he was having an affair with as a student development coordinator... and then crashed a motorcycle they were both riding.

Hardly even comparable,imo... and Pearl looks better to me.
No doubt Petrino is a slime ball, but in the eyes of the NCAA Pearl is more damaged goods. Petrino did not break a single NCAA rules, Pearl broke numerous then lied about it.
