I hear you. I don't mind them in basketball because a couple OOC losses don't really matter. Plus it's good for the RPI, not that it matters now, but it will if/when we ever get back in tournament contention.hapapp wrote:About what I expected. Duke in Cameron?
It's clear we have shown improvement over last season and with the youth on this squad one hopes this team will only get better as the season progresses. The future does look bright.
It's easier to pull an upset in basketball than football too. I knew it wouldn't happen Saturday, but I wouldn't be surprised if we give State some problems next month.

Could not agree more. I want to play where I have some chance of winning. Like you if the kids like to play these then great do it but I would never buy a ticket.hapapp wrote:About what I expected. Jesus Christ. God forbid the kids/players/team choosing what they like instead of asking AppinATL for input. Anything without a block A and not exactly like the 1954 jerseys just isn't good enough for some of you.AppinATL wrote:Back to the uniforms. Thus us what happens when you let the players have too much input. This outfit has to be the most horrible thing worn by any App team ever.

Someone suggested using a purple font for sarcasm. I think we need to decide on a color for hyperbole as well.

Playing teams in the Triangle, Charlotte and Atlanta between Thanksgiving and New Years makes all the sense in the world to me. Students are away or at least distracted. Coming to Duke allowed me and other alumni to get to see our team play.

Bingo. With no conference opponents within reasonable driving distance, I think it's great that we are scheduling so many in-state OOC games. If some of them are in iconic venues like Cameron and the Dean Dome, even better.Boone Goon wrote:89: as the admin we'll follow your lead. Choose and it shall become law.

Guess I'm surprised by the backlash for these games given that I've almost never seen similar comments about football money games. People always seem fired up about the chance to see us get our butts kicked in places like Death Valley or Athens.

Just out of curiosity is there any payout for basketball games at Cameron or some other place like that? I know it's not much if anything

Re: Basketball unis. Yuck
I think the product we put on the football field has been considerable better than our presence on the basketball court. Our chance of being competitive in football is likely at this point to be considerably greater. The $$ for those games also lessens the blow. We did get thumped at Clemson but the expectation was we would be more competitive than we were. I don't think anyone had expectations of that sort on Saturday.EastHallApp wrote:Bingo. I guess it is to each his own. I'm not opposed to playing ACC schools and the like but I don't like seeing our guys get beat by 40 points. I would think we could be more competitive against State but who knows. I much prefer games against quality opponents from peer conferences like our games vs. Davidson, Charlotte, and JMU.

I don't see any backlash just a couple comments with me included that it doesn't excite us but ok for the players. As far as money football games they don't excite me either. I really don't enjoy the but kicking no matter where the venue is. The money is what makes it a little more palatable.EastHallApp wrote:Bingo. With a dozen or so OOC games, there's plenty of room for a mix, which is what we have this year.hapapp wrote:I think the product we put on the football field has been considerable better than our presence on the basketball court. As long as we're losing 20 games a year in hoops, I guess it doesn't really matter who we schedule. But I'm sure the goal is to get to that Davidson level where you can at least hope to compete with just about anyone on a given night.

The fact that we're even talking about our MBB team is a great sign of how far we've come in the last few years!

I'll take the compliment in lieu of the alternative, I guess, so thanks? I'll let you get back to worrying about boys and their outfits.AppinATL wrote:Calm yourself man. Generalizations are NEVER TRUE for all being categorized. Your comment is something I would expect to be a reply in the Breitbart comments section.AppinATL wrote:Calm yourself man. I like to see us play in-state schools and there are plenty of them, but the road uniforms are gsu.

It is actually a really, really, big check for the program. Not on a scale of football checks but a large sum of money enough to inflate the budget.
As far as the schedule, App fans may never get a better non-conference schedule than the one the staff out together this year. Honestly...never. If you didn't get out to see them, that's on you. Knoxville, Charlotte (2x), Durham, and Raleigh coming up. It really does not get any better than that as far as playing quality regional opponents so the fan base that can not get to Boone can go and see the boys play. The program is trending up regardless of what anyone thinks. Fox has to win 3 games in a row in early March and then we may be back to the drawing board. Fan base needs to get on board and help the environment in Holmes by showing up and being loud! That alone does so much for the team.

I actually liked the gold (yellow) uniforms worn at home yesterday. Simple design with the classic Mountaineers in cursive on the front and a simple black block A on the shorts. I wish we had those in black for the road.
