Amazing thing about this is we still have a chance to win this game with a little over 5 minutes left!

Re: G’bo
I can't tell if our defense is playing well or if UNC-G is just making it look that way.
Either way, we've missed something like 8 of our last 10 free throws. Sickening.

13 total points for the entire second half, embarrassing! Are you sure this is Division 1, Wow?

Re: G’bo
I know we just lost, and that wasn’t a pretty game, AND there’s no such thing as a moral victory... HOWEVAH! This team is so much more fun to watch than the last couple years. They hustle, they play defense, they actually seem to run an offense. This year isn’t going to see the Mountaineers make much noise, but give these guys some time to get coached up, and add in some better talented recruits, and we could see some exciting basketball on the mountain in the next couple of years.

Re: G’bo
Encouraged by some things, disappointed in others, shocked at how bad we shot free throws.
Good- Defense seems to be jelling, rebounding and block out play inside is good.
Bad - Shooting, think this is a result of UNCG pressure defense but our off the ball movement is not that great and passing is lazy at times. Shot selection iffy.
UGLY- free throw shooting. Needs to be 70% or better not 22%. Won't beat anyone with that stat.

Re: G’bo
They hustle and play defense so hard. Because their legs are tired, they come up short on their shots both from the line and from the field. Must emphasize using your legs when shooting and the shots will begin to fall.

Re: G’bo
UNCG scoring D is like 54 a game. I watched about 1/3 of second half. UNCG got hot for like 4 min and took a tie game to a 15 point lead. We then switched to a 2-1-2 defense and stopped them from scoring but man were we cold. You play better D and got some easier shots. Got lead down to 8 then got cold. Making free throws is a great way to get back in the game.... but alas that didn’t happen. I liked the defensive effort.

Re: G’bo
Both teams played three games in four days.No excuse there. We came out of the break in a haze and never recovered. Stop Forrest and you stop App. Middle school teams shoot better from the line. On the other hand defense has improved tremendously over last year but shots weren’t falling when we created them.

Kerns mentioned it post-game but didn't elaborate. Sure hope he can go against UNCC Thurs. night.

Re: G’bo
Kerns mentioned post-game about "3 games in 4 days" and "sitting around the hotel wears you out." Sounds to me like our team isn't properly conditioned. Activities should have been planned to get the players out of the hotel, moving around and breathing some fresh air. UNC-G played 3 in 4 days and they certainly didn't seem to be tired. Our staff needs to fix this.

Re: G’bo
Burn that game video, forget it happened, that shooting was nothing short of unbelievable and I hope we never see the likes of it again.

It’s obvious that we’re a well coached team with bad players. Kerns is going to earn every penny this season.
Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Now, I’m concerned with our fatigue after a three game stint. It was clearly affecting UNCG as well, but not as badly. The press absolutely killed us. I can’t imagine UNCC won’t try the same things

Most of the arguments last year were that we had talent, but lacked coaching. This is essentially the same team minus Shabazz. Forrest, Delph, and a couple of the freshmen could play at a lot of other schools.
The biggest concern for me in the Fox era was the lack of buy in from the players, which seemed to get worse in the last couple of years. Repairing the locker room rapport is the first step and I believe it’s happening.
