Daughter and I will be there. Told a friend we may shoot lights out since we haven’t so far. Another trip with my daughter, so who cares who wins.

Re: MBB vs UNC 12/21/2021
Not too shabby in the first half. As the half went along towards 6 minute mark ..offense got stagnant... waiting too long to get in offensive flow... basically got tired given limited substitutions.. hopefully recruiting brings in more depth

Have to take the lid off the basket when shooting threes if we want to stay in this.

We were scoring in the paint not from 3. The shots were not bad looking - they just didn’t go down.
There were lots of Apps in attendance.

When your top 3 scoring players only give you 20, its going to be a long night. I thought we played well. Played really good defense , just didn't get shots to drop. Kerns style (and in my opinion the style that will beat the P5 teams most often) is to live and die by the three. We died by it tonight.

13% won't beat many teams. We are currently 10th in the conference in 3 point %. Forrest and Almonacy are a combined 27%.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 11:10 pmWhen your top 3 scoring players only give you 20, its going to be a long night. I thought we played well. We play hard. We play very good defense. But we are a horrible offensive team. We have trouble scoring and if you cannot score you cannot win. Even when we win we only score in the 60’s. The offensive game plan allows other teams to hang around which allows teams of equal or lesser talent to stay in the game, hence the 500ish record.

App State Basketball — kids always play hard.
Our Style of play is so slow, that you(fan boys with no understanding of sports) we are #323 tempo out of #358 teams, therefore the defense looks good because the score is always low. It’s like playing “4 corners” in this era. When you play this slow you have to be really efficient or a great offensive rebounding team. 70 points for App is like climbing Howard’s Knob for everyone on this board.
UNC tempo is #85, that is super slow for the Heels. Roy’s teams were always top 5-10 each year in tempo. Not sure Hubert is the answer in Chapel Hill, time will tell, Heels don’t really look like they are on the same page. Be Wes Miller coaching in 4/5 years when the wine and cheese crowd runs out of patience.
We didn’t replace the loss of Kendall Lewis last season on the recruiting trial and I believe that will have an effect on this team longer than most realize. James and Don need some help, Kendall would have helped or someone like him.

Nailed it. For our style of play there isn't a bigger concern going into conference play.hapapp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 6:31 am13% won't beat many teams. Re: MBB vs UNC 12/21/2021
I totally get that most sports have been taken over by analytics (I don’t agree with it but I get it). I’ll also say that I have never coached basketball except for some church league so I’ll defer to Kerns but what I don’t understand is the absolute love for that line. It’s like there is a barrier and our guys must stay behind it to shoot. Is it a crime to shoot from maybe 3’ closer? We absolutely have little to no paint threats other than a 6’5” guy who plays well. I thought we did ok at times attacking the basket and should continue- if we get the shot blocked so what? We can be ok in conference play if we don’t continue to die behind that magic line.

I told my daughter last night that the next guy who shoots a 3 should be thrown out of the school (:

As bad as it was, shooters have to keep shooting. Heck, we couldn't make layups either. My wife said it looked like the basket had a lid on it.

Fun to see lots of App fans in the Dean Dome even if we shot 4 of 30 from outside. Been a real game if we hit only a hand full more.
Even got a few App - State chants going!

If we had played like we did at Duke it would have been a lot closer. I think we will do well in conference.

We have struggled on the road so far this season. Our first two SBC games are at home and then we hit the road for 5 of the next 6.

Re: MBB vs UNC 12/21/2021
The first possession to open second half was all I needed to see. Got the ball walked it down passed it one time the JF threw up a milk dud over two defenders. Even the announcer was amazed. That was ridiculous. Down by 8 and that’s what we drew up at half?

Re: MBB vs UNC 12/21/2021
Agree with a lot of the thoughts here. We will do better in conference, but we won’t be great.
We are in love with the three ball, but we can’t shoot. And who knows what the situation is with the guys who came back. I’m sure it’s hard to manage expectations on playing time.
If it’s me I start to move towards the future just a bit. I’d consider going just a little bit bigger and playing Duhart, Lewis and Huntley together. All three all big, athletic and have some touch.
Focus on great defense and rebounding and an inside game. At least experiment some. Try something else!
