We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I'd forgotten we beat VCU that year. In fact, that was the year they upset Duke in the first round of the tournament.
My wife went to VCU and had just talked me into moving to Richmond the month before that VCU game. I have long said that was the most fun App State game I have ever watched in person. Very up-and-down exciting.
I have also long believed Fancher's NIT team was the best App team since I arrived on campus in '94 -- depending on how the rest of the season goes, that 06-07 team will probably drop to second best.
The VCU student section was one of the roughest I've ever encountered and their adult fans on the way out weren't much better. Made the victory that much sweeter...
Maybe I am misremembering but in my mind's eye I remember this like it was somewhere between yesterday and about two years ago.
The older of my twins earned her Masters at VCU a couple of years ago. Know that I heckled the hell out of the MSW graduation to make up for the treatment we received back then at the game. I was getting some looks and I was like, "I AM Yosef. Mfer."
I do remember rushing home to watch this on streaming when this was early in the process of showing streaming and I think we were both on NeuLion so we could share the stream.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I remember the 09-10 team being really good, but don't remember them receiving votes. That was the last season of Buzz v2, after which we hired that other guy instead of McMahan, right?
Yep. Finished 24-13 that year after making it to semifinals of the CIT. Wofford beat us in conference championship to go to the big dance. That 09-10 team can also be remembered for losing to King College.

The ONLY season of Buzz v2.
Guy had a lot of success at App, but 1-3 in SoCon title games was a lot of heartbreak too. I was fortunate that the one W was my senior year, and I traveled to Greenville for the conference tournament. A cathartic experience after coming up just short the previous two years.

Semi final meltdown against COC .Still have nightmares about that one.
Late game missed foul shots did us in. Convinced if we made it to SoCin finals we had an at large bid.

Yah I agree.
Looking at this season, an at-large is probably off the table, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's impossible. Looking at last season North Texas is a really good comp and unfortunately they got absolutely screwed out of a bid. However the big knocks on them were the Quad 1 games and they still dropped four games over the regular season. They however had a markedly better SOS.
If App runs the regular season table and loses in the Sunbelt final to JMU I think you'd absolutely see them in the discussion. Three of the losses have "aged" better. Northern Illinois still playing really poorly, but we can hope...
As much as App's performance will dictate the conversation lot of luck will depend on how the rest of the field does. There are a lot of weak P5 teams that will probably play their way off it sooner or later.

I don't think we are going to get an at large bid. But I really think we are moving in the right direction. In the most recent (this morning) bracketology, Joe Lunardi has us on 12 seed line. Richmond and McNeese are probably ahead of us on that line. But if we win both games in GA, it wouldn't take much for us to move on the 11 line. Our next ten games are all winnable. Who knows what the future holds, but I believe we are moving into the discussion for an at large bid.

The Sun Belt is such a lowly rated conference that any conference loss going forward is likely the death knell for an at large bid. Not to discount what this team has accomplished to date, but I certainly could foresee a road loss or two in conference play. Both games at home against the Georgia schools were 10 point games but were certainly competitive. I expect both games this week to be competitive games as well. The life of a good mid-major is so tenuous, one loss can derail post season dreams. Whereas, mediocre P5 teams can suffer multiple losses and still dance

This is why I like the idea of just expanding the tournament to one "play in" round which would be just regional games on the Tuesday before the main tournament starts. If we finish as the regular season champs and go 27-4 and lose in the Belt tournament we should at least get a shot. Looks like we could do all of that and not even get in the NIT.

We just need to win out the next 4 weeks and see where we are. No reason to worry about it now because if we stumble over the next 3-4 weeks then the only way we get in is to win the SBC tournament. I am pulling for us and JMU to both win out and play each other in the title game. I would love to see our league get 2 teams in and that is probably the only way it happens.

Didn't Lunardi have us as the AQ number 11 seed last week prior to the JMU game? Now we are a 12 against Dayton. Wins will mean nothing unless we win the tournament apparently.

No. He had at 12 v. Duke in Spokane.

Three of the four losses look a "bit" better overtime. Northern Illinois still falling off a cliff.
Kenpom
UNCA 236 >> 163 (NET 154)
Troy 187 >> 144 (NET 149)
Oregon St 191 >> 148 (NET 161)
Troy & Oregon St could both quite possibly end up as Quad 2 losses by season end. UNCW may also play into a Quad 2 position.

Never in my life did I imagine seeing us on a men’s basketball poll ahead of Gonzaga and Tim Izzo’s Michigan State. Wow.

In a one game scenario we have proven we can compete at a very high level .That's progress.

The beauty of this team is that we have all of the aspects of a really good team- defense, shot blocking, outside shooting, we have guys who can score in the paint and most of all a solid 9 man rotation that plays together and appears to be unselfish.

Had to change the thread title to reflect the most recent polls.

If we were better at the free throw line, we’d be undefeated. That’s our Achilles heel.

If we weren’t one of the top 10 teams the country in defensive rebounding and #1 in blocked shots, we’d be 9-14. Every team in country can improve in some way.

Free throws are going to catch up to us. If we keep saying it, we’ll eventually be right.
