"They played great? GREAT??? "
Don't think he was using the term as a comparative to others - sometimes one is in competition with oneself or one team is in competition with itself - doesn't mean GREAT in someone else's eyes but it might be GREAT for them ---

Shooting less than 50% from the floor and barely 60% from the ff line and turning the ball over 13 times is far from great. The guys played better and did what it took to win the game, but they did not play great. The term great gets tossed around way to much these days. Great was once reserved for the truly exceptional. Not any more. No wonder kids these days have such inflated egos.MountainMan wrote:It may have only been GSU, but these guys played great, IMO. If we could get points, rebounds, defense, and hustle like this from these guys every game, we could win a number of additional games. AND, I think their play today should improve their confidence (especially Spagnolo and Kobani). Very pleased to see a great effort and great result today.asu66 wrote: Nice game from Spagnolo, Kobani and Obacha inside.
Thank you and congratulations to Spagnolo, Kobani and Obacha!!
Also, a nice game by Ty Toney. With a little more confidence and some more playing time, he can be a very solid player. Had several beautiful threes. I'd play him more and play Mike Neal less.
I've been one to knock on Capel as much as anyone, but I gotta say he was EXCITED today when the guys played well. A couple of times when one of our inside guys made a basket and got fouled, he just about jumped out to center court in celebration. Pleased that he could have something to celebrate.
Don't know if it will last, but today's play was enough to get me motivated to go back for the next couple of games.
GO APPS!!!!!
Too funny!! Some folks just get so bogged down in despair and disgust that they can't let themselves see anything positive in a GREAT win. Carry on.

I must admit this game would have tied a school record of consecutive losses if we'd lost and I found myself almost hoping for Capel to preside over such a historic low. I mean if we're going to be this terrible it might as well be the worst season ever. Go big or go home.

Let me get this straight. "The guys played better and did what it took to win the game" is being bogged down in disgust and not seeing anything positive. You continue living in the fantasy world and I'll stay put in the world ruled by reality and facts.

We can still tie the record for fewest DI wins in a season. In 1974-75 Press Maravich's boys won 3 games. Two came over UNCA (who was DII at the time) LR. The lone DI victory was a GREAT 7 point win over ECU.Gonzo wrote:I must admit this game would have tied a school record of consecutive losses if we'd lost and I found myself almost hoping for Capel to preside over such a historic low. If they can't win they don't deserve to win. Different than rooting for your alma mater to lose.Gonzo wrote:If they can't win they don't deserve to win. I said ALMOST. I was streaming the audio and rooting for the Black and Gold. Sorry but the Jason Capel experiment has turned me salty and cynical about App Hoops.hapapp wrote:Different than rooting for your alma mater to lose.Gonzo wrote:If they can't win they don't deserve to win. I DO love my fantasy world. If you're in the world ruled by reality and facts, then stay there and be happy. I don't really want to be part of such a bitter place.

I think all of us have soured on that and are looking forward to a new direction. But, I don't want to hold the players hostage in this. I also confess some sense of compassion for Jason Capel. No doubt this hasn't been what hewanted to see happen. I'm sure he had high expectations for this season. I hope he lands somewhere we he gets a chance to rehabilitate himself as a coach.

Proud of the guys and the effort. It would be easy to quit right now, but they haven't. Any good that may come out of this season will only help us in the rebuilding process next season with a new staff. Keep fighting Apps. We are behind you all the way.

Re: MBB: GaSouth at AppState
This team will have to learn how to win without Canty. He's out around a month with his hand injury. Welcome to the rotation Mike Kobani.
Re: MBB: GaSouth at AppState
I watched the Thursday Game and the Saturday Game in person....I also saw the Davidson game in person.
IMO: Canty is the only "upper" level basketball talent on the team
That being said: We played better without him on Saturday. When we do not try to shoot a 3 in the first half of the shot clock and actually set screens and make crisp passes....we are pretty good. (Not Great).
It seems we "play" around with a line up until we play that group into the ground.
The team IMO would be better than pretty good if there was some "coaching"/"scheming" going on when they came out of the game. I watched with a purpose Saturday just to see what happened when players came out, and at timeouts.
Gainey and Sampson ALWAYS have something to say to the kids when they come out....the kids seem to pay attention.
Unless Kummer is working on game management he sits there and "makes" notes. I do not think i saw him out of his seat more than a few times.....except at timeouts.....And we had more than a few "excitable" moments with ...and "1's" and big 3's.
At timeouts there is "little" conversation and Capel comes to the huddle to create a play out of the timeout.
At the end of the half with 13 seconds left....the play drawn up was dribble around for 10 seconds and throw a pass for a 25 ft. 3....or at least that is what we ran.
There one MAJOR thing I did like about Saturday. (..and I like Baskin)...but if Jason would use that bench more frequently the message from Saturday may have gotten to people earlier.
Neal is off his game from last year.
Eaves just looks like he wants to be coached
Toney looked good and appears to have the build to be physical
Kobani, Spag, and Obacha...while not the most graceful basketball players make a pretty good front line....I think Baskin could have added to that Slowing it down a little, we have a good enough shooting core to be OK.
Please notice ..Fish.....never said Great!
