I don't doubt that there is more talent in the SB than the Socon at all. But, year in and year out, Georgia Southern, UTC and others had more talent than Wofford, and maybe sometimes as much as Davidson. But, look at the teams who have gone to the dance over the years....well coached, disciplined teams who don't make lots of mistakes and play defense (Wofford, Davidson).
I could see us becoming that type of team in the Sun Belt under Jim Fox.

Wofford (49) is about 25 points higher rated in the RPI than GState (73).EastHallApp wrote:Sun Belt is a notch above the SoCon overall, but Wofford is the best team in either league.

Well, Ga. State is 11 spots higher in kenpom, which is why I edited to add "probably." But Wofford has more good wins and fewer bad losses, so I give them the edge. Both could be dangerous if they make the tournament.hapapp wrote:Wofford (49) is about 25 points higher rated in the RPI than GState (73).EastHallApp wrote:Sun Belt is a notch above the SoCon overall, but Wofford is the best team in either league.

SoCon minus Davidson and Charleston isn't much to speak of anymore...add what is clearly an improved GA Southern to that, and I think you can add us in a year or two. There are several legit NBA prospects in The Sun Belt right now.
I think there have been maybe 4 NBA Players come out of the SoCon since I started following in '98...granted, one is one of the best in the league in Curry...but it's him, Goudelock, Martin, and you can count Jarvis Hayes' 1 year at WCU. 2 of those schools, as mentioned, left the league...and WCU someohw lucked into 2 NBA players while still being terrible at hoops.
I know that' s not the end all of league quality...but it is a good indicator of how players tend to view conferences.

Re: Tx-Arlington @ ASU 3:30 PM HCC
Charleston was overrated most years. They haven't been the same since John Kresse was coaching, other than a bit of success under Cremins.
Nobody compares to what Davidson did for years, but Wofford and Mercer are on the right track. I feel like Fox can make App a formibable Sun Belt team that emulates the style of these teams. I hope the staff can recruit and develop players enough to make us a consistent good mid-major program. Of course, that requires sticking around Boone for a while.

The funny part about Charleston was how unequivocally hailed they were coming into the league and winning it in 1998-1999...and then they literally never won it again.
For a school that placed such an emphasis on hoops as to pay big bucks for Bobby and a New Arena, and to get the SoCon tourney in their backyard most years, they sure didn't capitalize on it!
