Heard the same. Have to wonder who is on the "search committee" (like we don't know ;) ) and where he...I mean they might look next should Lutz get offered and take the UNCW job.
Exactly, we all know who the committee will be...

He was the guy I had hoped we would offer 1st. do you know if it was a money thing with Rice or if we just never made him a formal offer?

I couldn't make it, but followed the VMI/IPFW game online this weekend. Wow! 106 points vs. a SOLID 25-win team. This is a huge deal in Lexington as VMI hasn't been to the postseason in decades.

If Duggar Baucom can make it work AT VMI FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, I think he should get a shot in Boone!! Imagine what the staff goes through trying to get kids there AND TO KEEP THEM THERE.

They've got 21 wins and are still playing, lead the country in scoring with an exciting brand of basketball - a coach who is realistic and would build our brand while giving us some memorable games/teams on his way up. He'd be a steal, IMO.

I'd take him ALL DAY over an unproven assistant or a retread head coach who wants 500k+ or whatever.

I looked last week on the ASU site for the job posting and there was none.

T-Dog posted on the 24th that there was a job posting.

I know we have discussed on here before but I am thinking there is a 10 day minimum in NC for the posting....correct me if wrong....for public job postings.....

Looks like next week at the earliest.

no way we would have been able to out-bid Rice. They are a pretty prestigious private school, probably with a pretty sizable endowment. My guess is that they have the resources to bring whomever they wish in to turn around their bball program, and pay the going price to lure some up-and-comer away from a good program. We aren't in that position.

It may be next week, or longer, but they've got a work-around for that old 10 day posting. Here's an excerpt directly from the posting...

Please e-mail cover letter, resume and references to basketballjobs@appstate.edu. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until job is filled.

Any offer of employment to a successful candidate will be conditioned upon the University's receipt of a satisfactory criminal background report.

What this does is say to all interested parties..."if you're interested in us, get your credentials in stat, 'cause when we find the right guy and get a good background check, we're hiring him right on the spot. Drag your feet on your credentials and you could miss the bus."

I have officially emailed Cobb and Sutton as to why I personally feel that Matt McMahon is the best fit for ASU. Among them is the fact that the Racers are still playing in the post season. A statement that hasn't been made about App since Matts departure.

Surprised no one has suggested hiring Christian Laettner .
Last I heard he was coaching the Mad Ants, an NBA Developmental Team in Fort Wayne.

Can imagine CC's head getting so red it explodes like a tomato.
Would be worth seeing.
Doubt Lattener would take the job, and some don't like him
but he is the only player to start in four final four's ever.
Not that that has a lot to do with coaching, but could be
a good recruiter.

With people here thinking CC is arrogant, it's probably best to keep Laettner away.

Good one --- I will say that I never had a problem with Laettner's arrogance because he always delivered !!!

Laettner is an assistant D-league coach. If you think the problem with Capel was that he was too qualified, Laettner is your guy.

I haven't heard Matt Figger's name mentioned but he would fit the profile:
http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sports/m ... 98321.html

He's at a school rumored to be contacted by Charlie Cobb. He is the coach in waiting at SC serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. He spent several years at South Alabama so he knows the Sun Belt. He's never really been a head coach but he did coach a game this year while the head coach was suspend (they won so I guess that counts for something).

The icing on the cake is that the last associate head coach is now the star coach at Stephen F. Austin.

He's not my favorite candidate by a long shot but he's probably on the radar and we could probably do worse. We'd be going from a coach with 1 prior year of coaching experience to someone with 20 prior years of coaching experience.
