Of course Dook would say that as well as UNC, Arizona, etc. they are the power conferences. I said what I said. It would only be March. NC State has an opportunity to punch their ticket to the tournament and would never have an opportunity to do so otherwise...and from a money and TV ratings..the attendance and TV ratings would be significantly down at the major conferences if there were no potential rewards from the tournament.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:01 pmI would think that would ensure the best mid-major teams actually get in and thus more mid-major wins I bet. Did you hear what a Duke player said after they got beat? He was not worried because he knew the ACC tourney did not matter and they could still win the national title.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:42 pmGood grief. The Madness is the upsets and is the reason we watch some teams we have never watched during the season...
I don't know the answer to this but have we ever had a really low seed (not top 3) from a mid-major conference pull the upset in the league tournament and then make a run in the NCAA Tournament who had a deep tourney run?
App. St and all the other mid-majors know the deal .win your tournament and you are in ..that is why it has the name Madness

I think we are in the neighborhood of 15 #1 seeds losing in their conference tournament. .That's nearly half the D1 conferences. True madness!

Vermont wins. Princeton does not.

Off subject...but if ncsu loses to UNC tonight but gets into the NCAA tourny at 21-15...and going under 500 in conference reg season play.....I'm going to puke. We were freaking 27-6....damn

State has to win to make it. No other way.

Truly amazing how tough it is for #1s to win especially at the mid major level. Princeton is likely NIT bound, which likely means they are ahead of us in the pecking order. Virginia likely headed to the NIT as well.

Yes they have the luxury because they know they are getting in. I get it but I just think it looks bad for a #7 seed in a mid-major to get in due to a lucky couple days and then get beat really badly in the NCAA Tourney. What if all regular season and tourney champs get in? That way 3+ months are not completely erased by 1 bad game or an entirely bad season rewarded with the best prize based on 3-4 days. I know this has not happened but technically a team could lose every game of the season but then turn it on in tournament and get in the NCAA.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 6:42 amOf course Dook would say that as well as UNC, Arizona, etc. they are the power conferences. I can't find where we talked about players returning in the league where I mentioned that we could see star players go so we have no clue who the top teams should be yet but I just saw on social media that 5 players from Western Carolina have entered the portal after their coach left. I believe if Kerns goes we will see a few enter the portal also. If something like that happens it could cripple us for next year. I hope that Gillin is doing all he can to retain Kerns.

A couple of the upsets, like Duquesne, hurt us.

We will still be in NIT. I don't think it hurts that for us.

The goal is the NCAA until it is announced, one way or the other.
