Couple of tough calls in that game. The missed three that was half way down really hurt.

It totally is. Just like anyone, would loved to have won last night. Keep this in mind folks, We've covered spreads, except Duke, and are playing better for longer periods of time during the game. Our seniors were terrible last season, but they were still seniors. We are much younger than last season, and this will take time. We are starting a freshman point guard whose only offer was a walk-on opportunity at Arkansas, to play football. The more games this group gets to play with each other, the better we'll get. It's still November, and this is a long season. Stick around, you'll be glad you did.

Fox didn't seem pleased after the loss last night. He took some blame for not adjusting sooner to what the 49ers were doing. Sounded like defensively, he wanted to take away the 3 which spread the defenders out more and allowed UNCC to penetrate the middle of the D for some easy opportunities which is quantified by their 16 assists and 57% shooting. Once the D switched up to the "amoeba" 1-3-1, they held the 49ers in check and got to within 4 with just over 2 minutes remaining. App was able to out rebound them and create some turnovers with 8 steals. However, shooting 53% from the FT line won't help many teams win a game.

I think 3 pages on this board about our basketball team is progress. Rants are still better than apathy. I am more excited about App basketball than I have been in a long time. I think we are so close. A win last night would have done a lot for the program. We need a game where we win when we are not supposed to. I agree we may be more lenient on Fox because he is likable. But that makes me want him to win. Makes me want to pull for these guys. We need that one game like Troy 2014 in football.

Remember our last game of last season we beat a Little Rock team that won 30 games and beat Purdue in the tournament.

I've got to give Mark Price props for recruiting division 1 caliber players to a community college campus. That can't be an easy feat.

Saturday vs WCU seems like a must-win for the program. Hopefully we can put butts in seats for it.

We will! We'll be back in Concord, specifically Kidd-Brewer East (Jerry Richardson Stadium), next fall teaching your 200 fans how to tailgate and blowing your sorry team out of the water by as many points as we want.
Once again. Our campus is not in Concord. It's in Charlotte. Please refer to some of my previous posts for further detail if needed. I don't have the patience to go through that again. There are many maps available for free online and at the local library if needed.

You sure are putting a lot of hope on that one football game coming up in 2018!

You better hope you win that game. That's going to sting really bad if you go further down in "games that matter" vs UNCC. Remember App is down 9 wins to UNCC in men's hoops head to head. If App loses that game it could take 6 years of all wins for them to even break even with UNCC.

That's going to be a bad bad day for App if they lay an egg in Charlotte in 2018.

It's kind of a no lose situation for UNCC. No one expects them to win.

But if you lose..... Wow. That's going to hurt.

Enjoy thinking about it while you reflect on the loss App was just handed!

It's a great opportunity for personal growth.

See you next year around this time. We may need to right the ship again, but we know where to get that W in picturesque Boone, NC.

The basketball game yesterday doesn't have anything to do with the temperature of Chartroll's mom's basement.

I bet it's getting cold down there. She always waits until the last moment possible to start the heat for the year. MOM! MEATLOAF!!

Found a minute to answer a question in the Lodge so I'll answer this one as well. Robinson was being recruiting as a football player and most basketball coaches that had talked to him expected him to play FB. He made the decision to play basketball late and Fox made a quick trip to see him as soon as that became known. It just worked out for us since many schools that were interested had already filled out their classes.

I think that it shows a lot of improvement that last last year when we played UNCC they had about a 15-18 point lead the entire game. Had very little struggles with us. Fast forward one year latter and they were sweating their balls off the last 5 minutes ON THEIR OWN COURT. If we had not missed several wide open shots we may have won the game. Price has gotten better recruits(according to the star system for recruits) but they have done little with them. On the other hand, Fox ended the game with 3 freshman, one sophomore and one junior on the floor. I too am tired of losing but it is important to remember where we came from. I was at the last App/Western BBall game at Western. Capel was still the coach and it was terrible. We have come a long way since then. We may have lucked into Fox as he was not one of our first 3 choices but I think he will win. When you are in a ditch as deep as we were it takes a long time to dig out. Price at UNCC was the flashy hire and he may turn out to be a good coach but so far I do not see that he has improved this team with better recruits. Our score shows that. I will continue to be at the games and welcome any thoughtful conversation with any of you but as mad or down as you feel just remember where we were only a few short years ago.
Good post. Price has also brought in a lot of transfer so he has a more veteran squad than we do. People need to keep in mind that we only have 2 Jr. and no Sr. getting playing time. The guys play well in spurts, but then have periods where they look lost. Thats not surprising when you have mostly Fr. and So. on the court.

I hate to add this, but we got zero help from the refs last night. With over 10 mins left in the 2nd the fouls were 8-0, and the refs hit us for multiple traveling calls while missing obvious walks by UNCC. One 49er fan even admitted they missed some calls. Fox fianlly had enough and got a Technical. The next few minutes featured a lot of calls against UNCC, and we almost came back. I just wish Jim would have gone off on them earlier!

Who were our first few choices when Fox was hired, other than Lutz? Out of all the rumors I heard at the time, I agree that we are probably fortunate that we landed Fox in terms of our program overall. The other names I remember hearing were Dugger Baucom, Mike Young, the assistant at Virginia who's now at liberty, and an assistant at Richmond. Young is probably the only one I could see as a program builder, but I have no idea if any of these names were legit.

Ridiculous comment, as is the glass ceiling article. they are young and still learning. Coach Fox is building a program the right way. We are lucky to have him. These kids play hard and sure make some silly mistakes but they are going to gel at the right time during the conference. Lets not forget we have one senior and only a couple juniors mostly freshman and sophmores. Interesting how easy it is to bash someone and a team in a blog. I wish App fans would come out and support this team, they will be very fun to watch!
