3-1. We did look tired. A lot of short range misses. Sloppy turnovers. Winning on the road is difficult. I’ve seen us drop a lot of similar games over the past several decades , not disappointed with a win.

Agreed. On the road in conference, get the win and get home.
I’ll take 3-1

28 points for him today. He just keeps bringing it. Speaking of Duke, Spillers hit a three to give Wake the lead against Duke, then punched an alley oop right after that. His assignment today is to guard the likely number one pick in the draft.

We didn’t let him walk. He didn’t want to do what he was being asked to do on the court. I understand your point but the coaches need to trust a player to do what he is being asked to do.

Re: MBB @ ULM, Saturday 1/25 3pm
I’m noticing we don’t do a particularly good job of moving without the ball. There’s a lot of standing around watching the ball handler and not moving to get open. There’s a lot of cut back behind the ball carrier to hand it off, but nobody is moving to get open without the ball. It’s like there’s no plan, just run around and see who gets open.

No use crying over spilled milk but pre portal era we’d have a top 25 team this year

Perhaps, but he was also a freshman. If you recruit a player into your program, you should be willing to invest time into developing him (or adapting your system). It's water under the bridge, but we saw today that we struggle mightily to generate offense without Tate on the floor. With Marsh, we'd be contending for 1st. We need that spark.
Regardless, when you consider that we lost Spillers (who's an ACC starter), Harcum (who's avg. 11 ppg for Murray Statem 14 points, three 3-pt and 4 assists today). Marsh (Big South Player of the Week and leading UNC-A with 8 games over 20 points), X (who is not playing, but gave defensive intensity), Abson (who is cashing a check) and Mantis (who probably needed to go, but is in the rotation and hitting threes at Maine),,,,,,Kerns has done a helluva job building a team on a short-time rebuild.

All true and it is water under the bridge. My point is that he didn’t want to fit into the system. He wanted to play his game and wasn’t interested in playing ball Kern’s way. You can work with can’t. You have to cut bait with won’t.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:47 pmPerhaps, but he was also a freshman. Yes we are a bit anemic on offense. Marsh was a problem. Both statements can be true.

Announcers mentioned that even though ULM hasn’t won a game in Sun Belt, that they’ve been in every game.

Put me in the camp of not missing Marsh.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 8:10 pmAll true and it is water under the bridge. My point is that he didn’t want to fit into the system. The streaks of no points for what seems like ages have been evident for years. Maybe it’s our offensive scheme?

This was a tough assignment coming off the late night in Jonesboro. Nothing about our style is pretty but these guys battle for 40 minutes. Going 3-1 on any road trip is huge.

3-1 and the 1 being a game we were in against arguably the best opponent in the conference.

Re: MBB @ ULM, Saturday 1/25 3pm
APPdiesel, you mention we don’t move well without the ball … lot of players standing around. I’ve noticed about every team does this now. They get it from the NBA where two players run a screen & roll and the other three “position themselves” (in other words, stand around and rest and watch). This is the new way - and it is boring to watch. Bobby Knight’s motion offense is no more. Sharing the ball is a thing of the past. It is poor basketball and is being played at all levels. Makes it easy to guard. …. I watched high school game Friday night and saw the same thing. I just watched Maryland vs Indiana, pretty much the same.
A wonderful game has changed for the worst. Not as fun to watch without the movement.

Agree. It is more of a drive the lane and kick it out for the three. It’s not fun to watch.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 3:06 pmAPPdiesel, you mention we don’t move well without the ball … lot of players standing around. Re: MBB @ ULM, Saturday 1/25 3pm
It would be nice to start our sets a little bit earlier in the shot clock. It takes Tate roughly 8 secs to get to the half court line and we aren’t starting our half court set until shot clock is at 16-18 seconds- that’s not that much time for a play. It’s probably all apart of the “slow it down plan”, but we do take it to the extreme. Even starting our half court sets with 20-22 secs left on the shot clock would give us a few more possessions a game and not make possessions feel rushed.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:43 pmI’m noticing we don’t do a particularly good job of moving without the ball.
