Can you clarify this? I'm certain I read somewhere that one non-D-I game was the rule in the Sunbelt. Capel's trying to stretch it to two. He will, if someone doesn't monitor what he's doing very closely. If he tries to "nudge" in an extra non-D-I into next year's schedule, we could end up with another late cancellation of a home game. That cheats the players and fans of a respectable home contest/opponent.

"He said that a maximum of one or two games against non-Division I programs is ideal, and that the Sun Belt has a mandate to play no more than two of those programs in a season." I'm not certain I trust the guy to do the right thing when he's fighting to hang on to his employment.

I was certain I had read that the Sunbelt had a maximum of one men's basketball game against non-D1 competition as well. Unfortunately, it looks like I was wrong. I searched the internet and the best I could find was (a) a copy of the 2009 Sunbelt meeting agenda and actions taken along with (b) a review of current year schedules. In 2009, the conference voted to allow 2 or fewer games against non-D1 competition. The reason given in 2009 was to avoid forcing them to play a D-1 game against a school with a poor RPI like USA's game against Presbyterian. I also reviewed the game schedules for both Ark St and GA St - both of them have 2 non-D1 games scheduled this year.

Thus, look for ASU to have 2 non-D1 games next season regardless of coach.

Thanx for the info. Two is an improvement over four or more.

Sun Belt teams have to come to Boone as they allowed us in their conference.
I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the sarcasm, I thought you knew me better than that.

In 2012 it was one sub-D1. It's two this year, but that might be because of the defections causing an exemption. The Sun Belt is playing 18 conference games this year due to having 10 members and doing a true double round-robin. Next year it goes to a 20-game conference schedule with 11 members (everyone home and away), so there shouldn't be more than one sub-D1.

How would I know you? Your paths and mine have never crossed. I've posted a few sarcastic comments on these message boards over the years and you didn't get them. Sarcasm doesn't always come across too well in writing.

Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.

Well, stirring the pot was the nice way to put it, but if that's how you want to term it, then knock yourself out.

He can tell it like it is all he wants, but with his record it just comes across as making excuses. Capel has no credibility right now.

Wait, do I understand you correctly that you don't think Cobb is doing a good job?

I am shocked!

Fan support should be in full force regardless of record.
No one likes losing or a sucky product on the Court. Can't blame the fans for bad attendance. Winning solves most problems.
