Tate talks of his return and next season.
Tate's statements at the end seem to debunk the idea that players are leaving because of Kerns.

Whoever is spreading that “ idea” didn’t spend much time around the team this past year.

I read a 247 article that says the median basketball NIL spending for 2024-25 will be $1.5m per team.
That is among power programs. The Sun Belt average is about 200k I heard.

If CJ Huntley changes his mind and sticks around one more season, we’d have a nice core to build around. Would love to have either Harcum or Marsh back. Wonder if Harcum did transfer if Marsh would be incentivized to return getting a starting role at PG. Tate’s comments about Luke Wilson are promising as well.
I was not sure which ones but I was thinking 2-3 would decide to return so if Huntley joins as well then we definitely could have a real good nucleus back. Hopefully some big time JUCO/portal players decide to come as well.

Even that number seems out of reach for us, not that I have any basis of knowledge on that issue. I would be surprised if we had 200k for our basketball team, but hopefully I am incorrect and will be surprised.

We are no where near the median if the report is accurate.

If that had been true then he would have likely got the door and not an extension.

We definitely aren't but I say let these programs over spend. We need to play money ball and find those who are under valued.

I have heard 2 people say around 200k is the average in the Sun Belt and I was thinking the same thing as you.

I’d imagine if we have 2 players making $100k each, it would create some animosity among teammates. Especially, if the unpaid or underpaid are outperforming or performing at the same level as the paid. Do you only pay your top players or do you try to give some to all your contributors? $200k would be light spread out among our top 9 guys from this past season. Maybe just pay your top 5? 75/50/25/25/25

It was not meant to read as an assertion that was the way it way, just a possible scenario.

We are talking about amateur athletes getting paid $25-$100k (on top of a $25k scholarship and $6k stipend annually) to play in front of maybe 5k people and on ESPN+ with less than 30k viewers.

I recommend reading that sentence out loud to realize how crazy and unsustainable this is for anyone outside of universities with donors that have more money than sense.

It was reported that Hunter Dickinson received 7 figures for transferring to Kansas from Michigan for the 2023-24 season.

Kentucky had a kid near $2m according to media so who knows. An outlier I would think but with our former players getting $150k and others near that ….

100%. This is why I won't waste a penny on "NIL" because it just can't sustain. As soon as these power schools start to suffer in raising money for needed facilities, coaching salaries, etc they will wake up and demand change.

so, was Tate never in the portal or did he enter and withdraw? I thought everyone had entered except for Wilson at one point.

I have an idea, why don’t we stop this lunacy and save college sports from it’s sure destruction.

There is nothing we can do now. This is all on the power programs. The power programs have the money to spend and will keep doing so until it starts to hurt them. If they were smart they never would have gotten into this "pay to play" game but there are rich boosters so desperate to win that they will pay for an all-star team every year just to do so.

It could have been saved if the NCAA had just not been so incompetent and made common sense rules for players using NIL back in the 2000s but they waited too long and it is too late now.
