What does that even mean in the context of coaching college athletes? These athletes are adults, not children. Must be some really breathtaking "verbal abuse". There must have been previous complaints and it just snowballed.

Re: Darcie & crew gone
OK, all the innuendos I've been hearing now make more since. I know we have had players and coaches leave over the past six years because of the "Bob Knight-like" antics. I'm not surprised, as I stated before, that this is the reasoning. I can assure that this is not the first (or second ... or third) complaint. I hate that it may hurt the University, but that coaching style is going the way of the dinosaurs and I believe that the changes in the administration in the school and athletic department are directly correlated to something being done now.

Verbal abuse? Like the verbal abuse I took in basic training in 1975? I've not been the same since.

I have no inside knowledge. But I would guess there have been derogatory comments related to race or sexual orientation. That's the kind of thing that would get a coach fired in a heart beat. It's hard to imagine any other type of verbal abuse would lead to police escorting her out of the building.

I want to clear up one other point most seem focused on. Having the ASU Police escort a fired employee is not an unusual situation. It happens at most schools and most companies that have any form of security. Being fired is a bad experience and, if security is available, most places have someone standing by just to watch and make sure the person leaves quietly. Just as an example I know of a faculty member who was fired last semester and the department had Campus Police watching while they gave their keys over and removed their belongings. It's just something that happens but in this case it's more high profile and so it's bringing a reaction.wataugan03 wrote:I have no inside knowledge. I'm just guessing here but it doesn't sound like many on here have been fired before. I know I never have but I have seen those that have and police or security were there every time just keeping an eye on things.

There have been some 'financial' issues with the women's basketball program. That is all I will say.

I also read your earlier post as saying that the staff was attending the vollebyall tournament when security came and got them. Its one thing to have security present when they clean out their offices. It's another to go find them in a public space and take them back to their offices. But maybe I'm misreading your post.firemoose wrote:I want to clear up one other point most seem focused on. Having the ASU Police escort a fired employee is not an unusual situation. Re: Darcie & crew gone
Sorry. They were't yanked out of the crowd. I should have worded it differently. They were brought in during the tournament but I should have just left that part out. The escort was only to their offices in the HCC and out but done at a side door. I didn't say they were attending but it looked that way. It just happened while the tournament was going on in the building. I've edited the post for those words.wataugan03 wrote:I also read your earlier post as saying that the staff was attending the vollebyall tournament when security came and got them. Couldn't have happened to a "nicer" person.
I do wonder, had we won more games the last two years, would we still be having this conversation...

Moore, Capel, Cobb, Peacock, and now Vincent. You guys must have a locksmith on speed-dial.
This one looks like a mess but it is Women's BBall so nobody is going to pay too much attention to it. Good luck lining up the interim coaching staff. At this point it is really about taking care of the team.

Not true. Amber Doniere is no longer on the team and from what I gather, no longer playing basketball. I have no idea if her no longer being on the team is related, but she is no longer on the team.T-Dog wrote: No players left the program this off-season. Nice catch. Doesn't mean she's the whistleblower or that we should try to find em. It's apparent that the team felt similar.AppStateNews wrote:Not true. Speaking of the team, they took part in the flag deal on Saturday and look to be sticking together, which is good.

Very true -- not trying to say she is the whistleblower at all! I have no idea what led to any of this. Like everyone, I have heard rumors and have guesses, but no idea based on facts.T-Dog wrote:AppStateNews wrote:Nice catch. Doesn't mean she's the whistleblower or that we should try to find em. The team is still very much together. I have spoken to a few of them since Friday night and they are still enthusiastic about this season and competing in the SunBelt!

Re: Darcie & crew gone
Must have been something substantial - because she's the most successful coach we've had in the athletic department in the last several years.
