Speaking from a coaching stand point, the hanging scoreboard is useless to the team. Have you ever tried to read the time remaining on that thing while dribbling down court? The only way it would be feasible would be to keep scores and game clock at each end of the court.
Yes but the recruits will find the stadium more legitimate and not like a huge highschool gym.
Syracuse, VCU, Gonzaga and Davidson do quite nice with. "High School gyms".
While we can agree that Davidson plays in a high school gym I think the jury is out about their success there. The have been playing a home schedule for decades that was appropriate to that gym. This year they are entering big boy basketball. Let's see how they do.
I've always liked Davidson's gym, and never really thought of it as a high school gym. Wofford, UNC-G? Sure. Davidson, no.

Davidson has been playing "big boy basketball" for a long time, just not in their conference schedule.

One thing Davidson has in their gym that UNC-C and ASU doesn't have is.....fans. Personally like their gym and atmosphere myself.

I agree. It's a great atmosphere for college basketball, especially on those weeknight games when the school is in session and a "name" opponent comes to town. I did the last review of Belk Arena for Stadium Journey a couple of seasons ago and even having been to a number of games at Belk in the past, came away impressed when I went down to really evaluate the facility from an evaluation standpoint. (Work plug to follow:>>>> If you're interested in my review of Davidson's Belk Arena it can be found here: http://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/ ... arena-s696) Based on my prior experiences in A10 venues, I think Davidson will fit quite well, especially if Coach McKillop can keep the winning going.

Nice try, but Charlotte averages more fans than Davidson and App combined.

I took the point to be that Davidson plays in a gym that fits, and occasionally exceeds, their needs. They average 4K in a 5k seat facility. Charlotte averages 6K in a 9K seat facility. While Charlotte does have more fans in attendance, the facility seems empty by comparison.

No need to attack us for our attendance. We know where we stand since leaving Varsity. Our average wouldn't fill Schaeffer. Although it might be more appropriate, given that the program has been such a tragedy as of late.

I'm more excited for this season than I've been in quite some time though. Maybe we revisit the numbers later.

At present.

There have been times when UNC-Harrisburg couldn't draw flies on a dead horse while App was packing Varsity butt to butt and Davidson was selling out the Charlotte Coliseum. Ask Ron Green.

FTR. What's Davidson's enrollment compared to UNC-H?

I really wasn't attacking App. I was responding to NewApp's assertion that Charlotte had no fans. It just is not factual. We were in the top 75 nationally in attendance for probably a dozen or more years. What is true is that we have dropped, but that is because we have sucked for the last 10 years. Even so, as I point out, we still outdraw the combined teams that NewApp mentions.

Truthfully I hope that your new coach works out, and you get back on track. App has embarrassed us a couple of times in the last decade, but I would still like to schedule the occasional game between our schools.

I always liked Lefty Driesell too, so thanks for reminding me of his terrific success at Davidson in the 60s. Charlotte was not even a University for half of that decade so our attendance was a little low I suppose. When you want to talk about the modern era point me to some facts, because right now you are just rambling.

If we're going to be patronized about UNCc basketball attendance, it's worth mentioning that, as of yesterday, 661 of 7,500 student tickets for this Saturdays UNCc football have been claimed. With an enrollment of 28,000 students.

Here's a shot of last weeks game AT GAME TIME against the #2 (at the time, #1 as of Monday) team in the FCS -- the biggest UNCc football game to date.

Now, what were you saying about UNC Charlotte's fanship and attendance?

They should sign a H&H with Georgia State. If a game takes place, and nobody is around to watch it...

Good thing Conference USA snatched good ol' Harrisburg Community College into their ranks! They are a HOT ITEM!

What research did CUSA conduct when choosing UNC- Charlotte? I'm a native of the western part of NC and work a lot in Charlotte. App State has a much stronger brand loyalty in Charlotte than UNC-Charlotte.

Whatever. Their loss.

Do a little ratio thingy of enrollment vs attendance and see what you get.

Ok so here is the answer to the original question.
It is because we are on this board all day, instead of working harder, to earn more money, to contribute more money, so we can afford the damn thing!!
