I understand that NIL is a problem and it is easy to assume that these kids are making the decisions to leave. Keep in mind that isn’t always the case and sometimes these decisions to leave are encouraged for the betterment of everyone.
That is true and I believe many are thinking their playing days are done but put their name in to see if someone offers them a scholarship. This is not the case with Harcum, Spillers, Abson, etc. I view them the same way. I just don't follow closely to see how their careers go when they leave.
Well, I’m talking about guys that don’t buy into the system and refuse to stick to the game plans. When you are trying to build a team, you can’t have any me’s.

Norchad Omier is an interesting comparison to our guys. He played 2 years at Arkansas State and transfered to Miami. His stats and minutes in his first 2 years at ASU were pretty similar to his 2 years at Miami, although his FT% and 3pt% increased steadily all 4 years. He's projected as a second round pick in the draft this year. Omier is better offensively but Abson is a better defender.

I thought you were just talking about playing time but definitely are some that coaches feel need to go to help the locker room. You need team players and some guys are all about the "me" as you said. I have complete faith in Kerns to rebuild what we lost for whatever reasons.

I was just speaking in general. There will always be a multitude of reasons why guys leave. We can’t just assume that they all fit into one box. We as fans don’t know a tenth of what goes on most of the time. What we see as a departure from our vantage point can seems bad, but if you speak with people that see the behind the scenes stuff then it might surprise you how often that tone on said departure could shift. I had a chance to speak with Coach Kerns last night. Not going to get into specifics but I asked him a coaching question and the decision making behind it and he gave me more than I bargained for in his answer. It helped me understand why decisions to transfer are often made outside of NIL.

A hospital in Hickory with a big Block A followed by ppalchian State Medical Center would go a long way to providing NIL money. Just saying.
ECU had a medical school. For that matter so does ETSU. Do you think we are behind them?

In general the NIL is a net negative for mid-major/G5 programs.

I’m not sure of the relevance of this data. The premise of having a professional school is that it would help with donations because of the higher earnings. ECUs overall athletic budget is higher but we are talking about donations. How much of their overall budget is donor related?

Although it would certainly be an honor if App had schools of law/medicine, that isn’t necessarily what we need.

What we need is for more tight-fisted alums to divert some of their nickels & dimes from Starbucks/Vape Shop to App State Athletics.

Many here donate to MAF, 3333 & TIGMA, so thanks to all who support our players & programs. But how many of our “rabid fans” spend $50-$75/week on coffee, but cry poverty when it comes to helping App maintain our winning momentum?

Am I the only one that isn't going to pull for players when they leave App? I'm not rooting against them, but I don't feel any lingering ties to a player that transfer.

I'll caveat that with the exception of grad transfers.
I'll always wish a grad well and I don't begrudge a guy that doesn't get much/any playing time here looking to get on the field somewhere. I won't pull for anyone that has a major role here and leaves because he thinks he's now better than us or is just chasing money. Go do you, but I'm not wishing you well.

Some UGA insiders think Abson is “on the dotted line”. Abson taking his visit during G day (Spring football game) might seal it.

I could see why they say that but Miami has contacted him also and he’s from South Florida, isn’t he?

Correct. Miami would also make sense. He is currently on a visit in Athens. Haven’t heard if Miami has landed a visit or not.

If someone is spending that much just on coffee for themselves when workplaces usually provide it for free, they got bigger issues.

You would be surprised. I am not a coffee drinker...but I see some co-workers bring Starbucks in morning...come in from lunch with an afternoon SB in hand. To each their own..not judging...just saying it happens more than one may think

I don’t get it. Unless Murray State’s got that much more of a bag than us it’s at most a lateral move with a coach and roster you have no relationship with.

My App-undergrad/Murray-Masters wife gonna be conflicted about this. Harcum was her favorite player this season.
