Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
Expectations for me next year to feel like the team is "improving" are as follows:
-Overall record hovering at or above .500
-Conference record of .500 or slightly better
-replace those god awful shorts we wore last night
*Troy was (9-22) (conf 4-16) last year. From what watched last night I would like App to have a season comparable to Troy's this year (19-14) (conf. 10-8). I think that is a realistic goal.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
Not unreasonable expectations. I think we should also keep in mind that the Belt was comprised of relatively young squads this year. Of the top 15 players (those on the three all conference squads), only 3 were seniors. In my mind, we will find out how good of a coach Fox is next season. No one expects a conference champion but we have to see better shooting and more importantly some semblance of a defensive capability. This year we were the worst in the conference in both those areas. (Technically 11th in defense)QueencityApp wrote:Expectations for me next year to feel like the team is "improving" are as follows:

"replace those god awful shorts we wore last night"
yes, please! I think that's one of the worst uniforms I've seen in college basketball. The top half looks like a practice jersey.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
The thing that bothers me the most is that lots of stuff seemed to get worse as the season went on. When I attended the first game at Davidson (albeit without Jack Gibbs) we looked crisp and energetic on offense, and defended reasonably well. Davidson just started to hit a few 3's in the last few minutes of the game to seal the win. I sort of feel like morale went down hill throughout the season (I"m sure losses don't help) and the suspensions, etc. were unexpected (I thought we were done with that junk after Capel got canned). I hope the coaching staff didn't "lose the players" towards the end.hapapp wrote:Not unreasonable expectations. Who knows. I'm still wondering why there was an armed police officer sitting behind the bench at the last home game.app97 wrote:anyone know why K Rob and Logan were suspended, other than the blanket "violation of team rules" statement?f
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Getting rid of Kelvin would free up a scholarship.moonshine wrote:Baby steps App fans. We must remember what Fox inherited when he took over. Did App have some disappointing results this season? Sure did but now look at the title of this thread. The guys made the conference tournament! Crawl before we walk.
For me, next year was the first year I planned on grading Fox. The lack of scholarships for next year is concerning, however, my expectations for next season have not changed. I'd like to see a bit more progress with Fox's program finishing middle of the pack and winning at least one conference tourney game.

If Robinson would get his act together he could be the difference maker. I think it's in him if he can find it. Otherwise our defense...well couldn't stop me from penetrating

Troy blasted Georgia Southern tonight 90-70. They'll play Georgia State in the semis. Hottest team in the league right now.

Person has been on fire thus far in the tournament. His outside touch has been deadly against both us and GS. Anxious to see if he maintains it v. GState.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
Troy beat Georgia State, coming back from 15 down to win by 11.
In the huge stunner, Texas State dropped UT Arlington by 21. The Mavs are probably on the outside looking in, but they're not 100% out.
It'll be #4 Texas State vs #6 Troy in the finals.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
UTA didn't have their 2nd leading scorer (fractured wrist in last game against Coastal). But, Texas St and Troy both look pretty darn good right now. Both are playing good bball at the right time. This matchup gives me a little grain of hope for our future since both of these teams were at or near the bottom of the conference during our first 2 Sun Belt years. Both teams have had huge turnarounds in one year.T-Dog wrote:Troy beat Georgia State, coming back from 15 down to win by 11.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
Here's a crazy stat that I bet no other mid major save the A-10 could match.
10 of the 12 current Sun Belt schools have had at least one 20-win campaign in the last three seasons. The two that haven't are South Alabama and App.

We haven't reached 20 yet combining the last two seasons.T-Dog wrote:Here's a crazy stat that I bet no other mid major save the A-10 could match.

Re: MBB: Sun Belt Tournament vs Troy
Really was not a good day for the conference yesterday. Having the top teams on the mens/women's side of draw lose hurts the league. It pretty much blows the chances for a Sun Belt team to get a W.

Troy is leading by six at halftime. Perhaps we lost to the eventual Sunbelt champions (small consolation) :p
