We need to create a new position!!!!!!!!!!

Unread post by spacemonkey » Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:58 pm

We need to create a position whose only purpose is to fill the arena during basketball games. We should also allow any attending student to sit in any empty seat at the end of the 1st quarter. The job should include a bonus of every dollar generated in ticket sales above the ticket sales for this year. We are never turning basketball around without participation from the general public, mainly students. We need to pay someone WELL to create attendance at the basketball game.

The only position that can fill seats in a consistent and sustainable way is head coach.

That’s not a knock on Fox or any HC. I’m just saying that you can have all the marketing in the world, but it’s the product on the court that matters.

You won't attract many more people up the mountain with a losing team. You can however give incentives to students that attend. Their student fees aren't supplementing revenue lost...there isn't a high demand for tickets. Really, it's only the case for football. First 1,000 students get a free t shirt, food voucher, bookstore credit, etc.

A successful marketing person never accepts that it can't be done. I will spare you the rest of that rant that I give my employees.

Duke seems to fill their place up for every home game. We have more students than they do. Cameron holds 9k. Wonder how they do it???

You're comparing a 5 time championship program that has a coach with over 1k wins, to a program who in recent history had a coach with close to no experience at any level (Capel) and made the tournament last when today's players were in preschool.

To be clear, I don't deny that it's possible to get more students in the door with incentives in the short term. I do not, however, think there are enough t-shirts and hot dogs to keep them coming back if the team isn't winning.

Get the students and general public out of the bars and restaurants for a couple hours and maybe we wouldn't need the "position." ;)

Furnish free beer with the hot dogs and you'll see more students in Holmes, winning or losing, than the place will hold. ;)

That could lead to other things being filled in the Holmes Center

What if the short term gave the players a sense of appreciation, and lead to better performance. I always worry a recruit will be on an OV and see the dismal crowd and be turned off.

No, *there*.

Also, it's *people who*.

End your sentence with the proper punctuation.

Finally, "grammar police" is not a verb. Don't do that.

Yup. You got me. This could have all been prevented had I read signing books rather than some how signing bonus. Not sure how I came up with signing bonus. Can I claim my own grammatical errors to be alternative grammar?

When you have to entice people with gifts to BUY your product it just means you don't have a desirable product. When you have to give people gifts to TAKE your product that they have already paid for, you just may have an even bigger problem.
It is not the marketing, it is the product.
