MBB: stAte @ App State HCC 3:30 PM

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Jan 27, 2018 1:44 pm

The Apps are fresh off of an OT win over UALR and should be ready to take on a weaker-than-usual pack of Red Wolves. The aforementioned team staggered onto the Mountaineers' campus after absorbing a blowout loss at CCU on Thursday evening. They shot a miserable 25% from the field in Conway.

The Red Wolves are in a tie for the cellar-dweller title with UALR. A win today coupled with an UALR loss would move them out of the last-place tie.

The Apps, on the other hand, are locked in a sixth-place tie with UTex-Arlington. A win this afternoon would get them back to .500 (5-5) in Sun Belt play. The "elephant in the room" is the long shooting funk being experienced by the team's leading scorers--R.Shabazz and J.Forrest. Can they get the monkey off their backs?

Today's game matches two poor-shooting teams. The team that can shake off the slump will likely win.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

I'm not one to use the phrase " must win" so I'm not going to say this is a " must win " game.If I were to use the phrase " must win" though I would say that this is a " must win" game. But I just don't use the phrase " must win" .....

"Must-win" is a worn-out cliche and I never use it either. So, what we have here is a prime-time Saturday afternoon home contest in the friendly confines of the Holmes Center against the weakest team we'll see during the remaining portion of the regular season. Judging from the conference standings, the Apps are clearly the better team. Next week, the Apps fly to Texas for tough contests against sixth-place UTex-Arlington and second place Tx State. That's no cake-walk. All circumstances considered, I'd call today's contest a "must-win" situation if I used that term. But I never use "must-win."

Stand by everyone. It's 2:45 PM and this game tips-off in 45 minutes. For Coach Jim Fox, who's fighting to get his team "around the proverbial corner" and fighting to solidify his future at App, this is without any doubt a "must win" contest for those who use that term. But just like Stonewall, I never use "must-win" either. :D

Win today not just gets us back to .500 in league play but puts us over last seasons conference win total.

Down 17-13 with 12~ To go.

stAte not treating this as a "must lose", thus far.

Is it just me or are most of our possessions seeming like broken plays from the start?

Total trash out there. Tyler seems like the only one playing with any real energy. We're REALLY flatflooted right now. Not sure if it was the OT or extra game over last week, but we look slow at every level.

Seven turnovers so far and Arkansas State has made 6/7 three pointers :0

Has a team ever shot 88% from 3 in the history of the sport? Ark state is right now. They have WAY more energy and will to win than us.

It’s sad when the kids playing at halftime get a bigger cheer from the crowd

I do not usually come on here and say anything bad, but we are down 24 at the half. Does not look like we have practiced in a while. Hope we have some fire in the second half.

The women's team is showing growth through the progression of the season.... That's good coaching.

I'm not sure what to say about this....

We’ve played much better defensively in the second half but such a massive deficit to overcome.

Three 3-pointers in a row brings us to down 13 with seven minutes to go.

Too many “moral victories”.
