Re: Troy at Home
I feel like Jim is right at earning an extension. You can't go into next year without an extension if you want to build beyond that. Next year could be a breakthrough with Bibby joining Ronshad, O'Showen, Tyrell, Issac and a more mature Forrest.
14 wins would do it, IMO.

Re: Troy at Home
Seems reasonable. I understand the rationale of a coach not being able to recruit with no contract. OTOH, you just can't commit another long-term deal yet based on what we've seen. Now, go win the Sun Belt tourney and we can revisit.

Re: Troy at Home
FYI, Jim's current contract goes through the end of next season, to April 2019. I don't think having Jim go into next season with an uncertain future is a good idea, not for recruiting or morale. I'd say two-year extension to April 2021 if he finishes this year strong.

Two year extension for a coach that hasn’t won three games in a row this year? Tap the breaks.

Exactly my thoughts a 2-1 finish gets him to 14-17. Win a game in New Orleans and you guarantee the one year extension.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2018 9:07 pmSeems reasonable. I don't think more than that is a good idea. Because if we aren't a much better team next year then you haven't invested too much.

Re: Troy at Home
In a nutshell, he should be able to finish out his current contract, next season's performance should provide the answer. He should be given the benefit of doubt and by next season we should see improvement. If not, then cut him lose.

Re: Troy at Home
I said weeks ago give him a 1 year extension now and if by January next year if the team is above .500 we give him a 2 year. If not wait to see the 2nd half of next year and the tourney. Finishing well above .500 for the year saves a job.

some rally bad moments this year and a problem with consistency, but we are so much better than we were a few years ago. Sign the man.

Re: Troy at Home
I’ve been pretty vocal since he was hired that he should be given the full five years of his contract when he was hired given the program he was given on top of transitioning to a tougher conference.
However if I’m an AD I haven’t seen results to warrant anything beyond a one year extension.
As always pullling for Fox and Co., hoping for a strong finish.

Re: Troy at Home
Only 10 Division 1 wins I think. better than before but some really winnable games were lost, including losses to some very bad teams. Attendance and interest in the program don’t seem to be increasing. I’d expect a run in the tournament before an extension. But I’m not paid to make these important decisions.

I like Jim and continue to pull for him, and make it to all the games I can. However, the contract was for 5 years, and I see nothing wrong with waiting at least until next January to extend, unless we do something unexpected like run the table and win a tournament game this season.

Re: Troy at Home
I think a one year extension makes sense. The inconsistency has been frustrating but there has definitely been an improvement in talent. We could be poised to take a significant step on the court and we have already taken huge steps with the off-court issues he inherited.
A one year extension allows recruiting to continue without a major lull. If Coach Fox's support staff needs to be tweaked, an additional year might allow that hire to be made as well. I think the risk is worth the potential reward.

Re: Troy at Home
The team has been showing progress the last few games, particularly on the defensive end. If we win out & win a game in conference tournament, this will be our best season in nearly a decade. Sad... yes, but still measurable progress.
All things considered this team should have notched wins over JMU, Troy, and Georgia Southern. We didn't. I like Fox, but felt some of his game management early in the season was poor. Still I feel like there has been noticeable improvement over the last half of the season.
If the team ends conference play with a winning record, then Fox absolutely deserves another year.
I'm optimistic that our guys will go on the road to Arkansas and notch a couple wins, beat Coastal, secure the seed, and win a game in the Sun Belt tournament. We absolutely have the talent and schedule to seize that opportunity.

Off the top of my head add Hampton and west carolina to the teams we should have beaten. Those two stick out like a sore thumb.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:29 amAll things considered this team should have notched wins over JMU, Troy, and Georgia Southern. We didn't. Re: Troy at Home
Forrest is 1/25 over last five games from 3-pt range. I'd expect that to change (hopefully).
Props to Tyrell Johnson whose shooting at 33.3% from range, up noticeably from last year.
We're also no longer the worst free throw shooting team in the Sun Belt lol. That honor now falls to UALR.
