As much as people bitch about Mark Dreibelbis, Basketball gameday went to crap when we hired "Professional" marketing people.

Good comments on this thread....

My ideas would be:
Get rid of that terrible pompous out of place Yosef stage. Love the idea of having a Yosef "box" at the game. Hate the execution. Wonder how much to create a box out of one of the upper levels....I know it's not impossible, Chapel Hill is doing it with the dram dome. Wouldn't have to be huge. If we are spending x amount on the end zone facility, this would be in line. But let's get our baseline seats back.

Glad to know it was spring break, there were no students.

My best idea is to operate a shuttle from west campus to the Holmes for the entirety of the game. Trivette and back constantly. I realized in my mid life that it actually is not exciting walking that mile in the freezing cold and this would be slow cost solution to literally usher fans to the game.

I'm all for ditching the Yosef stage if they allow beer sales elsewhere.

I think that the article about GCU has it right. The concept of getting students to attend is simple: PARTY. Tailgating outside in Boone during basketball season could be problematic, but seems like we could figure out something. With it being a convocation center, there are rooms available that could be used for gatherings (I would think).

Having a fully engaged student section would go a long way towards helping the players maintain energy....not to mention the impression that recruits would get.

A) Can't state regs
B) Just what we need, drunk students in a closed space with families.
C) Soused stations are located across the street from the HCC

A) I know, but one can hope.
B) Well, it would definitely lead to the more energetic atmosphere that everyone wants.
C) That's great, but games aren't played in TApp or Gaijin.

B) Has to be balanced with "paying" attendance. Even at our best, students make up 1/4-1/3 of crowd. At football, parents and other are above students for the most part, so their "antics" can literally be looked over. At the HCC, they and their Kids are next to the students and if they go to cussing out the other team, they are in the line of fire.

I'm not sure where the negativity toward the Yosef section is coming from, but I think it's a fantastic concept. Each year attendance there has grown. This year, particularly, the section is one of the few places in the building with shoulder-to-shoulder viewing. Pretentious? Really? People complain about the lack of affordable mingling opportunities with other Yosef Club members, and when one appears, we complain about that. That section is one of the real success stories in App basketball in the past 10 years.

In your opinion. I've been a Yosef Member since 1980. I think its pretentious. Use the room we used to, close it at game time and open it at halftime. it is not a success story.

Worry about where it's located when we have a demand issue. Right now, we could just about place it center court.

It is the optics, not the concept. Should we have an area for Yosef club members to network, gather, watch the game? Absolutely yes, great idea!

But do it right. Have some class about it and make it special. As I mentioned earlier (May be unattainable) it would be great to move it off the court into the concourse level, like a box or something like that. Even if they had the same stage idea set up in the second level, to me it would be less out of place.

So we've given up on bitching about fans who don't attend and pivoted to bitching about the ones who actually do attend? Got it.

I get that it appears pretentious, but from my experience most of the people standing around me (and always those in my group) have been engaged in the game. Of course you're going to have those who are socializing and not really paying attention, but that occurs in the stands too.

I will admit that I am less vocal standing up there than when sitting in the stands. I'll still get loud, high five, yell, etc. but I'm not nearly as raucous as I was when I'd sit with a group of guys in the stands. Some of our behavior and "playful taunting" was perfectly acceptable for the GA seats but I've always felt that it wouldn't be as welcome from a more recognizable area, especially with athletics personnel in such close proximity.

Good Point -I guess I was looking at it differently, but hear ya. I'm thinking this is a piece of the puzzle....moving to a different location, trying different things to get students in, maybe making it better so more people will want to be in Yosef Club.

The Hornets have a ticket that gets you in a bar near the locker room. Maybe instead of the stage, we allow Yosef's club in the tunnel into a room to socialize and drink and then also get reserved seats....Just brainstorming. Could be neat to walk out of the tunnel for folks!

Why do those who are not enjoying the Yosef stage want the pompous donors hidden from their sight?

Winning cures all folks. It's hard to get the students and fan base excited over mediocre (at best) play over the past several years.
