18-19 Hopes/Expectations
What are your hopes/expectations for the upcoming basketball season (I can say this now right :p)?
The team took a step forward this season finishing at .500 in league play and a win in the SB Tournament. That said we struggled mightily on the road and had difficulty building any momentum during the season. I thought we looked stellar against UALR and UTA was a very difficult matchup (see ULL).
We're returning four of five starters and some Freshmen (Forrest & Williams that put some great minutes in over the course of the season). As much as I'll miss Kinney who really put in some ridiculous minutes this last stretch of games, I think Hinton may the tougher hole to fill since his play off the bench probably won us a couple games highhandedly. Seacat looks like he'll be able to fill into some of Kinney's role and I'm hopeful that maybe we test some small lineups without a true 5.
I think Tyrell Johnson is posed for a breakout Senior season and that this team wins 11+ games in conference and makes it to the SB final. Most of our opponents are graduating good players this year so upcoming season seems as good as any.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I'll stay away from stating expectations since I don't know enough about the details. My hope is that player development continues and we gain consistency in 2018/2019. I think we have some good athletes and could be poised for a competitive season....at least I hope that is the case.

I'm gonna keep it relatively simple. 2 wins in the Sun Belt tournament.
The mountains are calling and I must go

Goals- 20 wins, top 4 in Sun Belt, win one OOC game that we are 10 point underdogs, increase attendance by 10%, 1 1st team all Sun Belt, Sun Belt Semis, three more years of Fox, retain all non seniors
Expectations - 18 wins, 4th in Sun Belt, increase attendance by 5%, Someone will transfer out, get rid of our road black uniforms, not sure what the ole AD does
BTW, I am okay with my expectations, but feel like we are capable of achieving the outlined goals.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
18-20 wins would be great.
Winning multiple games in the SBC Tournament is a secondary goal.
An NIT bid would be great for the program.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
Consistency was our biggest problem this season, so I'd like to see that improve.
We had great games on both sides of the ball but could never string them together. Doing so, along with closing tight games, would have given us 8-10 more wins on the season.
And since they were already mentioned, I'm a fan of the road blacks, even the shorts.

It was nice to get a few wins in those for a change.NO.2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 12:04 pmConsistency was our biggest problem this season, so I'd like to see that improve.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I believe Kinney will be difficult to replace. I've not seen anything from Seacat that makes me believe he has the offensive skills to do that.
There is reason to be optimistic that we can improve on this season nonetheless. While we lose a couple of very valuable pieces, we have some real talent joining the squad.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
The following year, 2019-20, could be a step backwards with a senior-heavy group leaving, so breaking through to 20 wins should be a goal.

20 wins, a meaningful OOC win, and a run for the SBC bid.
I think we can do it. No more excuses.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
My concern is similar to T-Dog's post. Our staff is still recruiting for 18-19 and is well into their recruiting for that critical 19-20 class with one more than the usual number of hardships. May the luck of the Irish be with them!

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
We have won all our bowl games, that should make anyone want to come here.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
There will be seven seniors (four scholarship players) next season, so in 2019-20, Fox and staff will have to replace half the team.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
That says that there will be plenty of playing time and maybe some starting spots up for grabs.
Those are positives when it comes to recruiting.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
It depends...if we move Shabazz to his natural position, where he could, "could" be conference player of the year, meaning the "3",and the two transfer guards provide a solid 4 man rotation in the back court, AND Johnson and Johnson step it up one notch, and someone plus Seacat can provide solid relief time there AND Jim can heal some of the rifs on his staff and his relationship with the team overall, THEN I see no reason we can't win 20 , maybe the tournament. If not , to quote Clubber Lang , my prediction is ,"Pain".
