Unread post by Gonzo » Fri Jan 11, 2013 12:32 pm

1. We're coming off a huge conference win.
2. This is the first conference home game.
3. Tons of football recruits will be there.
4. It is on a Saturday afternoon.
5. It's Elon.

What do these mean?

They mean GET YOUR ASS TO THE HOLMES DOME TOMORROW AND RAISE SOME HELL.

Football recruits will be there? Are we trying to turn them away from ASU?

Very good idea, social media is a great tool. I sent something to Jamal Jackson on Twitter and he was kind enough to re-tweet it to promote the game. He has over 3K followers, many of whom are ASU students, so maybe that will help some. GoASU has been promoting the games on Twitter but I'd imagine that hearing it from the starting QB on the football team would mean more than from the athletic department.

Let's hope we can get a good turnout for this one!

Looking forward to taking a break from moving back in on campus Saturday afternoon. Hoping to recruit some students to be spectators. I'm just excited that we'll get above 1,000 again in attendance. Let's try to keep it there, and improve it.

I gave it a push with the App State Central FB and Twitter. It's difficult to reach the students though. Getting a RT from Jamal was a great idea.

By my count we're up to 36 people coming to the game! Capel is making too much of this 3 game win streak and it shows his immaturity as a coach. Don't think it is wise to brag about beating an NAIA team and two D-I teams with a combined record of 9-22.

Given what he's had to brag about before now (nothing) I guess I can cut him a little slack. You gotta sell what you've got, and that's about all he's got -- a 3-game win streak, regardless of the circumstances. Try to get a bigger crowd out, get the players in a positive frame of mind, cross his fingers and say a little prayer.

What did Capel say about the win streak? All I heard was two of the 'Around the Mountain' segments this week where he said that he's proud of the guys, excited to get back on the court, they've progressed a lot since the beginning of the season, etc. It was just clips though, I have not heard a full interview.

For what it's worth, I do think the kids should be proud of the progress they've made. After starting 1-7, it would have been easy to pack it in. As much as our fans (myself certainly included) have criticized Capel, he didn't lose the team and they've gotten better throughout the year. A month ago, we were wondering if we'd win a DI game this season.

I am currently in an apartment across from the HCC, drinking brews and watching the State/Duke game/throwing the pig skin on commercials. It feels like June.

Brilliant job by Cobb or whoever for scheduling a home game that tips the same time as an NFL division playoff game...

Duke/State at noon, UNC at 2:00, Broncos/Ravens at 4:30. In this state, I'd rather compete with the NFL.
