MBB: Coastal Carolina @ App State 2 PM HCC MBB Alumni Day

Unread post by asu66 » Fri Feb 15, 2019 8:55 pm

Another of those "must win" home game faces Jim Fox and his Apps as they look for some payback for an earlier "ugly" blowout at the hands of the Chants down in sandlapperland.

Looking over the ticket sales leads me to believe this game and the Recognition for the 2018 Sun Belt Football Champions will boost the crowd to a 2018-19 season high.

Go Apps!
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Maybe Coastal will bring some fans up from Conway. That might boost the crowd. That's one difference between the Sun Belt and the SoCon. Because of travel distance very few opponents bring any fans to Boone (and vice versa). In their heyday back in the early 90's, the Easy Teasy fans used to pour across the mountain from Johnson City. We took their money and they almost always took the game. Other schools like Furman and UCLA would bring some fans too especially if it was a weekend game.

Apps trail 32-30 at the half. Had a lead with a minute left in the half, but we Appalachianed the last 60 seconds.

Down by 2 at half. I really don’t understand out game management at times. Goal with possession under 30 should be to maybe score but absolutely not to give up more points. Why are we driving with 20 seconds on clock...

Guys are playing fine defense. Refs are calling a tight game. If we hit a few more free throws we’d be up in this.

With the way refs are calling this (tight but fair) I think bodes well for us if we can push it inside early in the second. Coastal out rebounding is too with some clutch offensive rebounds, hope we can hit boards a little better. Shooting 50% which is fire. I guess just keep that up lol

Hope to get in some kind of rhythm in the 2nd half. And hit some free throws!

Keeping a 7-10 point lead with under 10 to go. I’m being a bad luck charm today, so I can only check in periodically, and for very brief periods.

Up by 13 at the under 4. We’re taking great shots and playing solid defense. Hope they can close this out for another good home win!

Always nice to beat Cliff "Cash and Carry" Ellis. If he's coached at a school you can bet it's been on probation under his watch.

Very nice game Boys! This is a very talented team with a nice mix of talents. I get everybody wants them to be further along..... but they're here now. This team can compete with any team in the league. We couldn't say that two years ago. Unless the bottom drops out, which does not seem likely, I do not see Fox going anywhere. This will continue to be a talented team next year.

How does 9-16 mean a team is “here”

Today's win boosts us to 6-16 vs. D1 and T-10th place out of 12 in the Sun Belt. Can you define what the bottom dropping out means to you?

I’m becoming convinced that the disappointing season is on me.

Whenever I have been able to watch a game from the beginning, we have sucked from start to finish. When I’ve turned the game on in progress we’ve either had a nice lead or at least its tight, then immediately we go into those long stretches where we can’t buy a basket and end up losing. Today, I had every intention of watching but got busy and lost track of time and missed the whole thing. Of our 9 wins, i have seen exactly one of them.

The horror show statistic of our season is that fact we only have six wins total over Division I opponents. There might be a couple of Division II schools out there who can better that.

Its been brutal on the road this season. That said Six games left (four at home) and this team could very well go 4-2 or better down the stretch. That probably gets us a #6 seed in Sunbelt tournament.

Yea about what I expected. We are not Kentucky or Duke or even any top of the line mid-major team you want to name. As I said previously, are we all happy with the record...... of course not. What I am saying is that at this point I have seen that this team has significant talent, that Fox got it here and while our overall record isn’t great..... I for one don’t think we should have a HC change.

I enjoyed the game today and like Coach Fox as a person, but aspiring to be a middle of the road Sun Belt team is selling us all short, and not where we should be. We might not be Kentucky or Duke but we can sure be better than the status quo. This is not Year 2. Let’s see how the year plays out but I’m sure hoping DG is busy behind the scenes to see what’s possible.
