Worked out okay for us... I'd rather open up against a ULM team (Ken Pom #144) we've beaten vs a South Alabama (Ken Pom #218) team that we just lost to (granted I think if we've got the two Johnson's we win it).

I believe next game looks like Coastal as opposed to ULL.

I think we have the talent to run the slate, but it's a super tall task ahead. I'd love to at least see these guys head to New Orleans and win a game.

If we were in the top four of the conference we would love this format.

I'd like a more traditional format; however, I completely understand the conference trying to protect/reward the top teams and give our SBC rep a chance for a better NCAA tournament seed.

Agreed. As an App fan, obviously I'd like to see us run the table this week and steal a bid. But as a hoops fan in general, I always find it disappointing when some mediocre (or worse) team gets hot for a few days and gets into the dance (where they'll almost inevitably get stomped), while a team that was good for four months misses out because of one off day.

I've always thought it was kind of ridiculous that basketball tournaments were set up to allow a team that gets hot at the end of the year to claim a conference or national championship even though their season doesn't really support it. I've heard arguments that, it's part of the excitement of March Madness and all. I'll just say this....while my Apps are that team barely getting in, I will happily pull for them to pull the upset and take the unlikely bid.

UGA did something similar a few years back. Their coach was in his fifth year and was having a losing season. The AD came an inch of firing him in mid-season but decided to let the man finish the year. Lo and behold UGA suddenly got hot and won the SEC tourney (including two wins in one day) and received an NCAA bid with a .500 record. The AD couldn't fire the coach in a situation like that so he received a reprieve. Alas, the story didn't end happily, at least for the UGA coach. The next season began poorly, the AD decided not to wait, and the coach was fired in mid-season.

Just shows that for a lot of conferences most of the regular season can be meaningless.

A tornado also hit the Georgia Dome during one of UGA's games in the SEC Tournament that year. I had friends that were there. They said it was one of the scariest moments of their lives. A very memorable SEC basketball tournament to be sure.

I wasn't really connecting the issue to a coaching situation but yeah....it creates a crazy disconnect between the perceived results in comparison with the actual season performance.
