MBB in SBC Tourney Round 1: Apps @ ULM 8 PM ESPN+
Well, here we go into the great unknown. Which team got off the plane in Monroe? The one that'll be back on campus tomorrow turning in their gear; or the one that'll be strolling through the French Quarter in NO thinking about another bout with Cliff Ellis and Co?
In perhaps a lot of ways, the future of Appalachian MBB rides on the team's success or lack of same this week. Will TPTB decide to build and support a strong and successful MBB program or will they just kick the can down the road again? This should be an interesting week.
As for the game, the team which plays the best defense will win. App's only chance will be to keep Daishon Smith, Travis Munnings and Michael Ertel in check. All three are pure shooters and shoot close to 45% from anywhere on the floor. The 6-6 Munnings scares me the most. He's deadly around the hoop.
If we allow the Warhawks good looks, it could be a long night. Go Apps! Defense!

The way I see things, if Gillin does decide to kick the can down the road once again in regards to basketball he's on the clock too. It might be beginning of the end for him in Boone.

Doug Gillin is a smart guy. He will make the decision that he feels is best for Appalachian State based on the situation and available resources. Some may not like his call but he will do what he feels is right. Either way, a BIG decision awaits. Turning point for our men’s BB program.

If he kicks the can down the road he didn’t have a spare $200k for a buyout. I’m betting he moves Jim Into an admin role giving him time to find another job while looking for a new coach.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 3:26 pmThe way I see things, if Gillin does decide to kick the can down the road once again in regards to basketball he's on the clock too. Put into a similar "no win" position, I wouldn't "create" a new position, but I'd reassign a coach (if no clause in the coaching contract prohibited a reassignment) into any vacant position I thought could have a positive outcome. I'd amend the contract to reflect the new position and make it for one year. Period!Rekdiver wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 5:27 pmI’m betting he moves Jim Into an admin role giving him time to find another job while looking for a new coach.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 3:26 pmThe way I see things, if Gillin does decide to kick the can down the road once again in regards to basketball he's on the clock too. That's exactly what NC State did with Bobby Lutz when Mark Gottfried demoted him several years ago. Lutz was reassigned as an assistant to a lower level assistant AD. He was miserable but didn't fight it because the legal bills would have eaten him alive.

Doug has done a great job and we are fortunate to have him. I’ll trust his judgment, but sure hope we don’t have to endure another 20 loss season before we make a change.

This is the first game I've watched this season. Question; has our defense been this bad all season? The open shots ULM has been getting are infuriating. It's a coaching issue for sure. On a positive note, they aren't quitting. With that start and the season overall it would be easy to phone it in from here.

Shabazz is struggling. If he gets going we can win this game. Forest is a tough kid. I like him on the drive, and he rebounds. Wilson with two blocks late but we have no inside game on offense outside of our guards driving. And yes , that’s our typical defense.

What, am I reading this the right way? Are you saying Doug Gillin might be on the hot seat or something? Lmao he's done incredible with everything so far. If he keeps Fox it's probably because he can't pay the buyout and wouldn't have enough to hire a coach he's really excited about. Honestly I could live with one more year of mediocrity under Fox if it nets us a great young coach next year instead of having to get an average one this year.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 3:26 pmThe way I see things, if Gillin does decide to kick the can down the road once again in regards to basketball he's on the clock too. Forrest and Delph are good players, I hope neither decide to transfer after this year. ULM has Shabazz on lock, they're almost double teaming him.

Rough start but good ending to the half. I think if Shabazz starts knocking some shots down and we win the rebounding battle and we’lol have a shot.
Isaac didn’t play much due to those fouls. Lack of him and Tyler on the boards was very noticeable.
Solid free throw shooting. Couple clutch shots from Delph too.
