"They" being AppStateMania himself, which I'd say is a good source. That leads me to believe the hire has been made. That someone has withdrawn, means he didn't get the job. AppStateMania posted that on Sunday. Seems like if Lutz was a candidate as Goodman suggests and he was on 610 talking about the job on Monday and the decision had already been made, it leads me to think Lutz is the coach. Why would he be throwing himself out there if the job was filled already?

Because in history, we have shown to be susceptible to shiny things being waved at us when hiring coaches. That and until DG goes to the BoT, the position is still open.

I understand that, however, AppStateMania, who has inside connections, said "Expecting a coaching announcement by Wednesday, at the latest." Perhaps he had prior BoT approval of identified candidates since he knew the hire was imminent. Why would an announcement be expected if a decision hadn't been made, that would be very premature.

For the record, I'd be happy with Lutz, Craft or McGeehan

I have been happy with all the rumored names. Lutz is definitely top of the list for me but any of the five mentioned are going to do well for themselves and the schools they coach

They have a meeting in the books for 3/28-29 already. That is why the Wed thing is coming up.

That being said, I would rather have to call a meeting and get it right than try to get it in on their regular meeting.

Mountaineer Mania says MBB decision to be finalized no later than Wednesday, if not before. Board of Trustees just happens to be meeting on campus in regular session on Thursday afternoon. Bingo! It is legal for the Board to have a meeting by conference call with proper advance notice (as was the case in the football vacancy) but that seems unnecessary to fill this vacancy in timely manner.

I also doubt it is Lutz. It will probably be a coach not even mentioned by the MMB armchair AD's, lol. Then when he is hired there can be another meltdown like the one when Drinkwitz was hired.
