Re: WBB: Sun Belt Standings as of 1.7.2020
Angel had her kids playing in overdrive at the end of last season; then Madi Story graduated. She was a special kind of leader on and off the court. She's obviously being missed.
The team played with a rotation of about seven last season. When Angel had to go deeper down the bench there was a sharp drop-off in talent. This season, that drop-off has been exposed early. Sad to say that IMHO there are as many as six or seven on the current roster that lack D-I capabilities. I know that's a harsh statement, but I believe it's a realistic statement. It's still early, but I fear it's going to be a long season.
Angel seemingly racked up a breakthrough in 2018-19. She was rewarded with a contract extension that runs through the 2022-23 season. At this snapshot in time and in reviewing her current roster, I'm no longer convinced that she can get it turned around to hang with the SBC's top five or six teams this season. I really want my talent assessment to be completely wrong.
Angel is a strong and courageous lady and she's deserving of good things happening with her team. Looking to next season, four current seniors will graduate (Hampton, Matthews. Plummer and Polacek).
Four 2020 signees have been announced, three high school guards and a Canadian JuCo forward.
