MBB gets transfer Dustin Clarke from Hartford

Unread post by T-Dog » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:26 pm

Apparently he was faced with not playing this year at Hartford so he transferred closer to home as he's from Newland and played at Avery. He sits out this year and will have 3 years left starting next season.

Seems like every recruit and transfer we look at is a guard. Couldn't we use some big men. And isn't time to recruit from high school and quit getting all our players from schools where the kids aren't playing.

We got a couple 6-8 freshmen coming in this year but yes, Capel does have an affinity for undersized transfer guards. Spagnolo and Canty are eligible this year so they should help.

1 Baskin, Tevin F 6-6 Jr. Stamford, Conn. (Chipola Coll.)
10 Burgess, Chris G 5-8 Fr. Lakeland, Fla. (George Jenkins)
35 Canty, Jay F 6-6 220 RSo. Jamestown, N.C. (Xavier) (Oak Ridge Military)
32 Clarke, Dustin G 6-3 So. Newland, N.C. (Hartford) (Avery County)
21 Eaves, Frank G 6-2 Fr. Greensboro, N.C. (Page)
12 Gilbert, Rantavious F 6-8 Fr. Albany, Ga. (Monroe)
2 Hamilton, Tab G 6-3 175 So. Winston-Salem, N.C. (Fishburne Military)
11 Healy, Nathan F 6-7 220 Sr. New Bern, N.C. (Blair Academy)
23 Neal, Mike G 6-2 170 So. Greensboro, N.C. (Oak Ridge Military)
4 Obacha, Michael F 6-8 Fr. Benin City, Nigeria (High Point Christian)
24 Okam, Brian C 7-0 260 Jr. Enugu, Nigeria (Rutgers) (Lake Highland (Fla.))
20 Rutherford, Bennett G 6-2 Fr. Weddington, N.C. (Weddington)

Transfers for us are a bit of a desperation move for Capel. If we have all guards we better run and press the whole game.

Brian Okam is 7'0" and 260. Is he a "project" or a legitimate contributing big man? I'd rather not see another Mike Crissman project although this young man does have 100 pounds on Mike, rest his soul.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Scat...

Okam is a MAJOR project. Capel & Co. gave up on him last season. As I recall, he didn't log a total of five minutes after January's games. I have no idea what he did this summer to get better. :?:
