Love this. Hopefully we embarrass them on ESPNU. Though I’m sure after we beat them they’ll be quick to remind us how Charlotte has a greater population than Boone.

Who is the player pictured? Doesn’t look like anyone on the roster. It’s almost as if someone took Donovan Gregory’s body and photoshopped a different head onto it.

I'm surprised there's so little chatter about this game. We beat them by 9 in Boone last year and their fans have been clutching pearls for a year. "How dare we lose to lowly App State at our halo sport".
This game is a big deal.
This team is 3-1...if a buzzer beater hits we could be 4-0.
This team is turning a corner.
APP!!!!!!!!!

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
We are 1-1 with DI schools and 2-0 with NCCAA and NCAA DIII schools. We had another DIII team cancel and a NAIA team cancel. I am glad we are winning and better to be 3-1 than 0-4 but we are 1-1 in DI.
With the Negative Nelly and Debbie Downer out of the way I do hope we beat the 49ers back into the JuCo ranks when they were Charlotte College.

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
I'll be keeping up with the game, but I'm honestly just not that much of a basketball fan, in general. I can't remember the last time I watch more than 5 minutes of a college or pro game outside of a restaurant that had it on while I was eating. I probably couldn't name 2 current college players and doubt I could name more than about 5-10 pros.
That said, I'll cheer for App in anything, be it football or underwater basket weaving (shout out to old school King Street Boone Drug).

Wow, y'all know how to kill a mood faster than bringing up politics at a party.
If this fan base can't get motivated by a good start and playing a hated geographic rival then what will it take?
I for one am getting up for this basketball team!!!

We have both beaten 0-5 SC State. We won by 20 down there and they won by 38 at home.

While it's WAY too early to prognosticate about the season due to most SB teams' weak early season schedules, etc., I'm doing it anyway. I tend to nerd out on the NCAA team stats page...thus far the east division of the Belt look a lot tougher than the west (much like football this year), and we only play east teams during the regular season. Coastal is currently highly ranked (#1 and 2 in nation) in quite a few statistical categories. Ga Southern and Ga State are highly ranked in many as well. An encouragement is that App is ranked really highly in the grit/effort stats (# 6 nationally in free throw percentage at 83.75%..big change for us, #7 nationally in rebound margin, #12 in defensive rebounds per game, #10 in scoring defense, #8 in total rebounds per game, #29 in total rebounds, and #40 in offensive rebounds per game).
Again, WAY early, but one can hope that the progress continues.

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
If both schools consider a match-up a scrimmage then it certainly is a scrimmage. Sometimes one team considers it a scrimmage and the other doesn't. Then things like NCAA records for RPI and such does not look at any DI games for overall record. Essentially calling it a scrimmage, even if the schools themselves count the game in the record books for stats.app97 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 2:05 pmWhile it's WAY too early to prognosticate about the season due to most SB teams' weak early season schedules, etc., I'm doing it anyway. Are the numbers above for us for all 4 games or just our two DI games? Given 350. DI MBB programs being top 40 is great. That is the same ratio as top 15 in FBS based on 130 FBS FB programs.

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
pretty sure it's all 4 games, so I understand it's not a very fair assessment currently. But, a stat like our free throw percentage shouldn't really depend on the opponent.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 2:36 pmIf both schools consider a match-up a scrimmage then it certainly is a scrimmage. One of the reasons I was high on Kerns well before he interviewed at App was that his Presbyterian team in his second year there was ranked nationally in several areas...pretty impressive for a tiny school/program with zero previous success in d-1. They were really high in 3-point percentage, 3-pointers made, and assist-turnover ratio. If he can get App to those levels on the offensive end, coupled with our current trajectory in defense and rebounding, we're gonna be hard to handle.

this is an excellent opportunity to reinforce that we've passed UNCC basketball. I'm looking forward to this game.

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
Betting lines have been moving in Apps favor. UNCC was favored by 6 last night when I checked and this morning the line is now UNCC -4.
UNCC lost to ECU, who is actually pretty good for their standards this year, and Georgia State who is a top 3 team in the Sun Belt in my opinion. We will need to REBOUND the basketball...they have 4 guards averaging 4.5+ RPG while we Almonacy is currently our leading rebounder on the team. Jahmir Young seems to be their do it all go to player, if we can slow him down and control the glass I like our chances a lot.

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
You said it...Rebounds! And that won't be easy. In addition to big guards like 6-6 Jackson Threadgill (a kid that App/Kerns and Co. recruited heavily but lost), the '9ers have several other active 6-5 to 6-8 guards. They'll also play some big posts ranging from 6-8 245 to a pair of 6-10 255 bookends.
This will be one of the three or four biggest teams we'll see all season.
Go Apps!

Re: UNCC game 12/11 5pm on ESPNU
We’ve got to make shots. Good spacing on O, good screening, good defense but not making shots. Down at the half, but still in reach.
