I almost put $50 on us going into the tournament. Oh well, I’ll have enough to root for tomorrow night.
And as an aside, we need to market the hell out of “Hi hi yikas” as a chant. It’s unique. I actually wouldn’t mind for it to replace the App State cheer.

If we go 3-40 from the field, I'll trust the defense to make sure we win.

Muck Madness! And yes, I meant to say “muck.” The more mucked up and ugly the game is the the better chance this team has of winning games, especially playing without a true post presence with Lewis Jr. injured. As many have mentioned, whatever we lack, we make up for in gritty gutty hard nosed play. So keep making the timely 3’s and clutch FT’s while mucking up whatever the other team wants to do on offense and we just might win a Championship and go dancing. Go! Fight! Kick Ass!
It’s Great To Be A Mountaineer!

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
My wife hasn't really watched any games this season but did last night. When we got down by like 11 points or so, she was like "what's up with your team?" (It's always "your" team when we lose, "ours" when we win...LOL)
I was like, "it's OK these guys play better for some reason when they get way behind." I personally don't recall a grittier App team ever...this is a great group of young men. And hail to Kerns!

Maybe we should yell that when returning kickoffs instead of, well you know...
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Little inside info here...
Don Munson, PBP voice of Clemson athletics (who we talk to on ESPN Upstate all the time bc Clemson is our local team) is an App State grad. As soon as I found that out every time I call him it goes like this: (off air)
Don: Hello?
Me: hi hi yikas Don, how we doing?
Don: Nobody like us, let’s do this.

GA St. -7 tonight in vegas.
App has shot 44%, 37%, 30% in the three games. I don't see us having another +10 turnover margin game, we must get back to shooting closer to 45% to have a chance tonight.

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
I have always hated worn out sports cliches but it’s hard not to use gritty and gutsy for these guys. I really no zero about the other teams as far as supposed talent but my eyeballs say there is no way we should be doing what we are doing. Nearly every game thread (on the early pages) is full of negative comments regarding style of play, poor shooting, etc then the glasses get half full again. This team reminds me of my kids high school team from several years ago. We had no real size and the shooting was hot and cold but the coach preached in your face defense. Those kids forced turnovers and bad opponent shooting. For a couple of years they played in state championships and managed to win one. Tough defense can shorten the game and help overcome shooting issues.

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
Part of the reason we've overcome the poor shooting is because of the 3's we've made. People always get mad at how many we take, but we've outscored our opponents by 24, 12 and 21 on three-pointers. That's a lot of ground to have to make up on twos and FTs.

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
Georgia State likes to get out and run and that does not play in to our benefit. Especially with 4 guys having played roughly 120 minutes in this tournament.
Georgia State's player with the most minutes is at a total of 68. Georgia State will be well rested and want to run up and down the court. If we can control the tempo and play our half court defense the way we have, I like our chances. But, we MUST control the tempo and make Georgia State play App State basketball.

Haven't we beaten these guys twice this year already? I like our odds, I mean, you know how App State likes a 3-peat..

Control the tempo and frustrate the hell our of GSU. There will be bodies banging as the Apps turn this into a grueling half court contest. Control your destiny App...send these Panthers home and yourselves packing for the Big Dance! Go Apps!

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
We were without Gregory (still don’t know why) when we lost at Ga St. He is obviously a huge piece in disrupting their offensive flow. We did, however, have James Lewis, who had a monster game against them back in January. The panthers lead the conference in several offensive categories, but our defense is clicking right now. Hopefully one of their guards will have an off shooting night.

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
I hope the strength and conditioning and training staff have the guys resting, stretching, and eating/drinking well today. It will have been a major accomplishment if we win tonight, and we can. It appeared to me we used a few more bench players last night than Saturday and they produced well enough. And yes, HI HI YIKAS!!! NOBODY LIKE US!!!
WE ARE YOSEF!

Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
no matter what happens tonight or in the future, this will go down as one of, if not my favorite App State team of all time, regardless of sport. Is there a team that has more embodied the spirit, grit and determination of Appalachian culture? Maybe Richie Williams being carried down the field on his bum ankle?
I've turned several games off in frustration this year only to laugh later at my own silliness.
