Re: SunBelt Tournament FINALS vs Georgia State (Monday 7pm)
I believe in the power of negative thinking. I've been repeating to myself, "we will lose tonight, and it will suck." Because if I let myself get too excited, and then we lose, it will probably ruin my whole Tuesday.
That being said, GO! FIGHT! KICK ASS!

I'm glad I started watching basketball during the tournament. I've been tracking the games as much as I could this season, but now had the time to watch.
Awesome to see this team play!

Watched the last of the game last night. Observations, we never gave up, no matter how the game flowed for/against us, our guys kept going. Gritty/Ugly is great description for them. They played helluva defense and forced a lot of turnovers, basically, that is what won us the game. They just kept pushing and pushing until they got the W. Easily the most proud I have been of of our Basketball team in modern (Post Cremins) era.

I am super proud of this team for standing tough and finding a way to win each night. Definitely the most I've enjoyed watching an ASU basketball team since at least 2010. I do have a soft spot for the 98-00 teams since they coincided with my time as a student. Last night's game got me thinking of those tough semifinal games in both '99 and '00. In '99, with the double OT win versus Chattanooga and in '00 with the late comeback on the back of Tyson Patterson vs Furman.

Win or lose I’m super excited with the direction Kerns has taken us. This is the most excited I’ve been about App State MBB since the bracket buster days against Wichita State.
That said I believe we will beat Ga State by 57 tonight and they will fold their program and drop to D2. Then I can only assume we end up making a run to the Elite 8. But don’t worry, I’m not getting my hopes up or anything.

I went to school with Don. We both worked at WASU and we'd have these staff meetings. His senior year he asked us to be a part of an informal thing he was trying to organize, kind of a "6th man" type of thing for the basketball games. So we sat together and hollered a bunch, but it didn't really take off.
Props to him for trying though. Years later I was so glad to hear him on Clemson sports network. that's pretty big time, and I'm glad he made it.

Don Munson, PBP voice of Clemson athletics (who we talk to on ESPN Upstate all the time bc Clemson is our local team) is an App State grad. As soon as I found that out every time I call him it goes like this: (off air)
Don: Hello?
Me: hi hi yikas Don, how we doing?
Don: Nobody like us, let’s do this.

Big props to the team & Kerns for getting this far. Especially these starters putting in massive minutes. Biggest difference in the Georgia St series was 3 pt shooting (better shooting team from range won all three games). If App stays hot and keep shooting nearly 40% from 3 and doesn't allow Georgia St to, I think they win this. Last night was a perfect example. They had some good shots that didn't fall early on, but they've shown if anything they'll keep shooting and start falling they did.

Almonacy is by far the wheel horse for this team. I can’t imagine where we would be if he wasn’t picked him up.

Not sure how that wasn’t a foul, but great way to start.

Well, we didn’t keep the first half score in the 20s like we have thus far in the tournament, but I still feel good about it for some reason. Neither team has taken complete control of pace yet.

D-E-F-E-N-S-E... I love the way the get after the other team. Rarely see dribble penetration from guards from GaSt. If they do, the middle becomes very clogged. Defense wins championships!! Let's keep it up in the second half.
