As long as Kerns is in town, I'm excited about the program. He's changed the mentality of the team. If Brown had been healthy this year I think we would have won the regular season and tournament (Huntley would have been nice to have last night too).

I would imagine we going shopping in the portal for some experienced players.AppHoops wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 9:53 amGuessing you mean everyone is gone with exception of Gregory who is a Junior. Will be interesting to see how much additional turnover we have after that.
Assuming all lower classmen come back (big assumption), the depth looks like this:
Guards: Brown, Harcum & Littlejohn
Wings/Forwards: Gregory, Eads & Mantis
Post Players: Huntley, Duhart, Abson & Glushkov
Walk-ons: Greene & Muse
That gives App 3 open roster spots - including Roger Wilson's spot that wasn't filled prior to this season.
Getting an experienced post player will be important, but even more important in my opinion, will be finding a guard that can take on a huge chunk of the scoring load given Alomancy, Forrest & likely Delph departing.
Still very excited about the direction and future of the program.

It will be interesting to see if he is testing the waters. His real task as the App HC begins once the season is done (hoping there is some level of postseason play).

I think Adrian Delph could come back if he wants to for his extra covid season. I have no idea what his pro aspirations are. Got to think after averaging what, 17-18 ppg this season his stock is about as high as it'll get. I absolutely want him to come back. It'd help a lot to have a seasoned player like him back.

Of course, he could look to spend his final year of eligibility at another school.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 3:16 pmI think Adrian Delph could come back if he wants to for his extra covid season. Delph has lots of options… time will tell which one he selects. Anybody have info which tourney we will go to? CIT or CBI?

Re: SB Tournament Semi’s vs Georgia State, Sun 8:30
You must have seen Kerns on ESPN+ because Frank Young did the post game show on the radio network and he went out of his way to avoid Matt Present's questions about whether the Apps would get an invitation. All he'd say was that he was almost certain the team would vote to play again if they had the option to do so.
If an invitation comes it's almost certain to be from the CBI to be held March 19-23 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The CIT is based on the Mid-Major Top 25 Rankings and the Apps are unranked in the latest poll. Sadly, they didn't receive a single vote.

I'd absolutely understand Delph graduating or perhaps grabbing another year somewhere else with a bigger stage. That said if he chose to return it obviously changes the ceiling next season on this team quite a bit. Agree that finding another post player & guard in portal would be clutch. Does Lewis have an extra covid year of eligibility as well?

Delph and Gregory work very well together. Most of our easy baskets in our half court set (and we need more of those) come when the two of them are involved simultaneously.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:31 amI'd absolutely understand Delph graduating or perhaps grabbing another year somewhere else with a bigger stage. If we do not have currently on the roster or not able to locate one in portal, I actually like Gregory as the Point Forward like roll if we continue to not have an up-tempo offense. He does not hold the ball for long periods of time when he plays that role and gets the ball moving.

We are better than many of these teams on a given night. Unfortunately, our record doesn't reflect that.asu66 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 12:56 amYou must have seen Kerns on ESPN+ because Frank Young did the post game show on the radio network and he went out of his way to avoid Matt Present's questions about whether the Apps would get an invitation. Future looks bright though. I don't mind seeing two of our three seniors with no eligibility left not being back.
Looking forward to the post season and next season.

We may have talent sitting on the bench that will show next year but until they do, I remain concerned about the future. Not trying to be negative but I think there a ton of question marks heading into next year.appfanjj wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:36 pmWe are better than many of these teams on a given night. I wouldn’t. I hope he bleeds black and gold and wants to give it one more ride in Boone. Taking the stairs means building a culture that players want to be a part of. Talent will get picked up. If he’s talented enough to play professionally he’ll be able to achieve that whether he’s the #1 in Boone or #7 guy in the rotation at XU.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:31 amI'd absolutely understand Delph graduating or perhaps grabbing another year somewhere else with a bigger stage. Not really - look at the ACC's Player of the Year and WF's other top player - there are many other examples across the country - No, it doesn't work out for everyone but it has worked for manyAPPdiesel wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:11 pmI wouldn’t. It’s a fallacy.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:31 amI'd absolutely understand Delph graduating or perhaps grabbing another year somewhere else with a bigger stage. When hap is worried we seem to do well. In Kerns I trust.

He brought in Almonacy from the transfer portal. There's no reason he can't use it again if need be. Plus, his recruits will be in the mix next year. And, App basketball has reached a point where we are disappointed for being knocked out of the semifinals of the conference tournament.
We are 5-1 in the past two tournaments under Kerns. Prior to that, we were 1-3 + a DNQ and a season where we weren't eligible for post-season play.
We are taking the stairs, not falling off the mountain.

Re: SB Tournament Semi’s vs Georgia State, Sun 8:30
No one said anything about falling off the mountain but you don't lose 4\5s of your starting lineup and not create some doubts. I definitely believe we go to the portal to fill some gaps. There's nothing wrong with giving your young talent a chance to show what they can do but it requires some patience. To expect a repeat of the last two years may be expecting too much but doesn't mean we fall out of the discussion. It's going to be an interesting off season.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:39 pmHe brought in Almonacy from the transfer portal. There's no reason he can't use it again if need be. That's way different than not expecting a repeat of the last two years, glad you walked that back. We all can agree expecting 20 wins without Delph would be a stretch.
