Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
I don’t care how our D was, someone hits 9 threes in one half, it’s their night. The fact we didn’t loose by 25 is a miracle and tells me this team didn’t quit. Great game playa, you’ll never do it again .

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
Missed opportunity! A joke of a game on App's part! That embarrassment will be hard to live down. Now we owe UNC-A a return game on their home court. Not recommended!Might not be the best look, but I understand why we’re playing there. With the new Hickory campus and a decent alumni contingent in HKY, we’re likely trying to build some following for the team.
The anguished/astonished look on Coach Kerns' face in one of the published in-game images needs no cutline. Not prepared!

We do seem to lay an egg at many inopportune times. Hopefully, this was just a blip with a guy having a career night and not a return to normalcy.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:48 pmTonight feels like a major loss on and off the court to be quite honest. This was a chance to get a lot of people interested in App basketball that aren’t usually and the team laid an egg. I would venture to say that this game was the either the first game for many people in attendance or the first game in several years. Hopefully this will excite some to keep attending games up the mountain.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
It was a great turnout from a fan perspective given size of gym. Per the stat sheet , there were 1,825 in attendance for this OOC. Last year, we had a home conference game against Coastal on 1/5 (also during break with attendance of 1,819. I think it's great that we may owe UNC-A a return game. Both are D-1 in basketball. I would like to see us have more games like this as compared to playing a glorified YMCA squad and beating them by 50 in Holmes.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
As has been stated- live and die by the 3. If you aren't hitting them you also lose in the rebound category most likely and your one shot possessions increase. Huge IF but if both teams shoot closer to 35% we probably win. Not a whole lot you can do if a dude is throwing them in from 25' and your bigs are not helping. Hopefully that was our stinker game. Unbelievable that their guy scored 30 in a half. Abson really needs to figure out some type of post offense that doesn't include just dunks.

Banks was 10/12 on 3-pointers; He probably couldn't do this again if he were the only guy in the gym. Unbelievable night for him.

He was 1-10 overall and 0% from 3pt with 2 total points against WCU. Sometimes you just have to accept that your opponent had the game of their life

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
These games can happen to good teams. They don’t happen to great teams, though. Even If we have a great record in conference. Say we split with JMU, but win the rest and fall to JMU in the tournament finals, we can look to 12/21 as to why we will probably be on the outside looking in.
The saving grace could be if Asheville wins the BSC Tournament and returns to the NCAA Tournament, though that’s easier said than done, given how Longwood looks early on.
Also, I think I heard somewhere that the return game will be in the Asheville Civic Center. and not on campus.

Banks had a game like Dibaji Walker vs. Coastal last year in Boone. I think Walker drained like 7 three pointers and was on fire that game. Have to hand it to Banks and keep moving. He couldn’t miss last night.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
3 is shooting over 42% from 3 and Abee is shooting 45% from 3 which is pretty good for college bball. Will the kid shoot the high % as he did last night, history says "no". Will he shoot 10% as against wcu, history says "no".appvette wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:04 amHe was 1-10 overall and 0% from 3pt with 2 total points against WCU. If there was a scouting report on the team, they live and die by the 3, it was not executed very well or the scouting report was poor. I do believe we have a decently good team. We just did not execute well on D in first half. It is what it is
Although he missed quite a few open shots last night, I was really impressed with Tate on defensive end. If all 5 guys on the floor hustled to play defense like him, we could continue to be a offensive challenged team and win quite a few games. D is a "want to" idea.

That game was actually in Conway but you’re right he couldn’t miss. Got us into overtime single handily.QueencityApp wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:20 amBanks had a game like Dibaji Walker vs. Coastal last year in Boone. Yeah, but then we would hear everyone talk about what a missed opportunity is was.

It was a bad night against a team that went uncharacteristically nuclear. It happens. Some of y’all look for any chance to be miserable. 9-3, one of our best starts ever, moving into conference play.

Not looking to be miserable. Just disappointed and passionate about our team. A loss like last night is harder to take because we are having a good year but lost to a solid D1 team that we are overall better than. We have seen flashes of just how good this team can be and it's frustrating when that team does not show up. Not miserable.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
There is no doubt that this was a disappointing performance. I turned on the game at half-time and was shocked to see us trailing by 21 points. It does happen, especially in basketball where a player can get hot from 3 and just take over a game. Clearly, App didn't play our best either. The only up-side (looking hard for a silver lining) is that it will hopefully be a wake-up call before conference play against ULM. Disappointing losses like this can keep that chip on their shoulders where it needs to be.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
They were 56% from 3 point range. And some of their shot selection was horrible on any other day, but for whatever reason they were all landing. That Banks guy hit one from nearly half court. We didn’t play our best but UNCA probably could have beat anyone in America last night with how hot they were. It’s why even a 16 seed can sometimes upset a 1 when the 3’s are falling.appfanjj wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:03 amNot looking to be miserable. Just disappointed and passionate about our team.
