We played a lot better, the other team played a lot worse in 9 of our last 11 games.

We’ve been playing fantastic all year. Hard to find a college basketball program in America that doesn’t lay an egg from time to time.

UNCA is good, and favored win their conference, but a big south team shouldn’t dominate us like that. I liked our resume vs theirs entering this game, but clearly it didn’t matter. They seemed to have more energy and fluidity on both ends of the court. We need to beat in-state mid-major schools.

Not good. Daddy ball comments. Well, in this case, mommy ball. Tough night all around.

Really? I moved more than her precious one during the game and I watched from my recliner.

This was a typical Appalachian basketball game…. I hope it was a fluke.

His mom was complaining at halftime that he barely got any looks essentially. I will say the ball movement was rough to watch in the first half. However, mantis also didn’t show any energy to get the ball. The whole team lacked energy and UNCA took it to our ass. We will need to be more consistent on the perimeter offense to win the conference.

Tonight feels like a major loss on and off the court to be quite honest. This was a chance to get a lot of people interested in App basketball that aren’t usually and the team laid an egg. I would venture to say that this game was the either the first game for many people in attendance or the first game in several years. Hopefully this will excite some to keep attending games up the mountain.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
UNCA lived and and won by the 3. They couldn’t score inside on us. We couldn’t buy a basket where they weren’t missing behind the line. Recipe for disaster.
I wish we would have pressed to start the 2nd half to set the tone instead of waiting like we did. When we started to press, we gave them fits, but couldn’t get anything going on offense.

We don't get a ton of open looks from 30 feet for a guy to stand at that spot then jack it. You have to actually move and play defense, set screens and move without the ball.

I have been careful not to call anyone out by name after getting a lashing from a parent, but a certain player on our team is a liability on defense and cannot create his own shot with or without the ball. His hope is that his defender gets tired of standing in one spot and drops down to double team and another player on our team finds a "Standing" open shot. Not a jump shot.

I live in Maryland (DC area). We use our budget for trips for football since season tickets. We just happened to be in Boone for holidays this year. Since up in the High Country and Hickory only an hour away, we made the trip.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 6:54 pmhow is Hickory not to far away but Boone is? not judging, just curious. glad you are here and can enjoy App BB.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 7:28 amIt's GameDay!! Going to my first bball game in years...just live too far away... cannot wait. See y'all tonight!!
Let's Go App..St.!!
What an ugly game. UNC-A wanted it more. Out hustled our guys for loose balls, bodied up on D...which App did not do. After 3 or 4 3 pointers by 3 in first half .one would think a change in game plan. He had 10 in first half with maybe 2 really contested.

Does anyone know why Abson played so little? I would not have expected to get out rebounded by Asheville.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
I have no clue whether Abson was sick or injured...the matchups were not good for him tonight. He could not cover their center who could shoot from 3...so he did not guard him .but the 4...and could not cover him. He missed a couple of block outs. I am not sure if kerns thought he needed more athletic players on the floor.

Re: App vs Asheville in Hickory
if it's the one I'm thinking about, I often get nervous when he's inserted into the game for that very reason. Auburn made their only run to go up by 8 or so points as soon as he came in the game a few weeks ago.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:09 pmI have been careful not to call anyone out by name after getting a lashing from a parent, but a certain player on our team is a liability on defense and cannot create his own shot with or without the ball.
