My guess is that much of that ranking is based on the fact that we didn't lose as much of our contributors as other have. Several teams lost their better players to the portal and have brought a number of folks in through the portal. That unknown factor for many teams likely helps App in the ratings/predictions. Notice that the difference between predicted wins from top to bottom is pretty close in the KenPom ranking.
