I agree. For me it is 1) Georgia Southern, 2) Marshall and 3) JMU.

Coastal is "rivalry-ish". They've made strides but need to sustain it for a while before they are officially on my personal list.

I am truly grateful that I did NOT get my wish for a CUSA invitation because the SunBelt has become an ideal situation for App sports.

Someone posted that slide showing the winningest football teams for each state (10 year period I think). I saw that NM State was displayed for New Mexico. Wow! The bar is pretty low in some states.

Agreed. Some fans may not have known the extent of Marshall history until a few years ago. When I was in school in mid 90s, I could not have told you that JMU had a football team and if they were any good

JMU has become a rival so fast because their fans are insufferable and conceited whiners. The cultural differences make them compelling. App and Marshall are so alike and Marshall isn’t elite at anything right now.

As far as new students and young alumni are concerned JMU will be a hotter rivalry than Marshall until something explosive happens.

I am truly grateful that I did NOT get my wish for a CUSA invitation because the SunBelt has become an ideal situation for App sports.

I agree, however if we were added to CUSA I think we still end up in a conference with Marshall, ODU, and JMU. Or ended up with ECU. Our impact on the SBC could have had a similar impact in CUSA and Doug seems pretty adept at navigating politics.

I hate Coastal and JMU more than Marshall and Georgia State, I mean Southern, and I was in school in the 90’s. I feel Marshall and Georgia Southern are more similar to us, so even though we have a imbedded historical rival, I relate to them more and I usually like folks from those schools. Coastal is trash and JMU fans are pretentious punks and I usually don’t like people I meet from either of those schools. I think both are scum. I at least have some respect for Marshall and Georgia Southern, though more for Marshall than Georgia Southern.

NMSU will always get a pass from me. They hired the person that discovered Pluto. That is worth something---in my book at least.

That is what I would have for now but 2 and 3 are very close. My daughter would put CCU in the mix at #2 I think. But she never lived and followed App when Marshall was in the SoCon. If CCU stays up there I can see this changing as older folks die off and a younger generation have other schools take on the rivalry role based on importance of the games.

What is amazing, outside of UNCC naming our FB game we only have had one named game and that was WCU. How much things have changed in a decade.
