Auburn continues to lay waste to teams on its schedule since losing to us. They’re about to beat Vandy by around 20 on the road.

Auburn hasn’t lost since us. Disappointing crowd last night. Big games like this one should draw more support….

6:30 on a Wednesday make it virtually impossible for anybody further than Hickory with a family and a 9-5
Students had a good turn out. That's all we can expect on week night games.

4,500 for the stAte at Southern Miss game last night. 2,500 for our game. You can really hear those extra 2,000 fans.
App has a better record, has that signature win. The students who come are great but where are the rest? We have enough students to fill up that arena twice over. Another 1,000 more would push that atmosphere over the top for mid week games.

I watched a good bit of that USM game. That place wasn't even a third full much less over half.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:29 am4,500 for the stAte at Southern Miss game last night. 2,500 for our game. You can really hear those extra 2,000 fans.

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Not the point. Reported attendance (which is the only actual number we have, which I realize is probably inflated) was 4,500. Ours was reported 2,500. Regardless, it shouldn’t even be close but their atmosphere was better.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:35 amI watched a good bit of that USM game. How many students were there last night, looked like 1,500 or so on tv, would be good to average 10% of the student body on weeknights. It's tough for us to draw more than 3k for a weeknight, now on Saturdays we should average over 5k.

I see a ton of Greeks representing their fraternities and sororities at this USM game. Wish App’s Greek oversight body would do more to encourage attendance.

The team is doing its part .If we want to continue to raise the level of the program we are going to need to do a better job supporting it. JMU had close to 8,000 Saturday. Will we get half of that next game ?

Butts in the seats and fan involvement are what create the atmosphere. You said you could hear those extra fans, but they didn't actually have more people in the arena. The actual crowd sizes were basically the same when you visually look at each crowd and consider the capacity of both venues are similar. HCC is actually a little larger. It also depends on how each crew mics up the arena. I've always though we had poor audio on ESPN+ in terms of crowd noise compared to what I hear in person. You of all people here should understand how audio setup can impact a broadcast.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:40 amNot the point. Re: App MBB vs Georgia State, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 (MMXXIV), 5 days until Year of the Wood Dragon, 6:30 p.m. ET, ESP
Couple thoughts:
App is at a disadvantage in that so much of the alumni is 2+ hour drive away when looking at Charlotte/Gboro/Raleigh crowd. This is extremely difficult for a weeknight game, especially for the working family as someone has stated above. And there isn't a solution to this unless we all move to the Hickory/Wilkes/Boone area.
So, for viewing purposes, why can't we move the students to the sideline sections of the Homes center where they would be in the camera view, much like the student section is set up at KBS? Not only would it make the gym look more full and active, but might bring more students into the games knowing that there is greater opportunity for better seats. Put all the season ticket holders on the other side away from the home bench so they still have their sideline view.

There is always an excuse. Students showed up. What struck me is how many Auburn fans made it to Boone. Ballparking it, I'd guess there were as many Auburn fans in Homes for that game than we had non-student fans last night. I get that people won't drive 2 hours to see App basketball on a weeknight. What about this Saturday? Is weather going to be the issue? This is a generationally good App team. They deserve more support.

Not saying we shouldn't do what you suggest but it is common to put students in the end zones. That is the case at JMU and many other venues. I'm not sure putting our students in the end zone is keeping students from the games.CoachRob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 10:37 amCouple thoughts:

The audio on espn+ was terrible all around. I knew Tate was going to do a good job for us this year. He has character.

Until we take out about 2,000 seat's it's going to consistently look 1/3rd's full, whether we win or not. It's just too big and defunct of a venue for us to fill.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:29 am4,500 for the stAte at Southern Miss game last night. 2,500 for our game. C of C can fill 5,100 every night and it's mostly alumni and not students. I went to the Elon game last week and the roof sounded like it was about to blow off even with an 18 point win.

Student Your Club leadership, who are are large portion of the front row is student section, have requested to stay on the baseline. They like having a direct impact to the bench and on free throws in second half.

Late afternoon tip times on weekends for those driving from distance is hinderance for many. That could be negated. Week nights the locals and students will have to show up .

Did you count? How do you KNOW they didn’t have more? Or are you so good at estimating fan count from a half a dozen crowd shots in a live broadcast that you just know the attendance was the same?JTApps1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:53 amButts in the seats and fan involvement are what create the atmosphere. You don’t KNOW we had the same just like I don’t KNOW they had 2,000 more. All I can go off is the ESPN reported attendance, which is the official number despite what your trained eye estimates it to be.
You’re being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative (why?) and avoiding the point, which was, while the student section is great there are 17,000 other students who have something better to do than come to a game.

It's not hard to to gage the crowd size and get close enough. When you see shots of their crowd and three sides are mostly empty then it's not hard to determine they had around 2,500 people in an 8,000 seat arena. You calling me argumentative is amusing. I'm just backing up my original post. I also never disagreed with your statement that more students should show up to watch this team play.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 2:30 pmDid you count? Students go behind the net of the away team side of the court for the 2nd half. That is the way it is done to make FTs harder at the end of the game.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 10:58 amNot saying we shouldn't do what you suggest but it is common to put students in the end zones.
