Have any of our 4 losses been due to the free throw shooting? I don't think so. Still need to shore that up. I still think Abson will be more of a force when he realizes how big and dominant he is. He has missed several bunnies right at the basket that he could have slammed but missed off the board.
Oregon State and Troy losses werent DUE TO free throws, but App missed 7 in each of those games. If you added 7 pts in regulation to App’s score, they win both those games.
However, I agree with what I think you’re trying to say; there are some folks on this board completely hung up on free throw shooting.
I just had a thought and maybe one of the stat geeks can look this up- after we missed either the front end of a 1&1 or one or both of 2 shots how many times has our opponent scored? I'm willing to bet that the percentage of made baskets in this scenario is low. The upside to the shooting woes tonight was that we still made 14 points at the line versus their 8.
Like I said earlier- just win baby.

Spillers skill set and athletic ability were just what this team needed and something Kerns teams had lacked till now. Outstanding pick up! Spurlock from my day had similar bounce and play from the baseline with a soft touch face up game. If Trevon adds that, look out. For now, he’s doing just fine by me.

Kellen Brand and Donald Sims are the closest comparison on offensive lethality. Brand was a hustler.
Backcourt but yes. Imagine Sims on this team.
Ha you're right I misread that. I'm at a high school wrestling match. But yes we had Jeremy Clayton and he was a 10 and 10 machine. Loved his defense nect to the sometimes defense of Minter.
Davis Bowne was also a solid front court addition to Minter when he transferred from Hampden Sydney. Abson reminded me a lot of Minter when I saw his high school film. Abson is a better defender/shot blocker, but not yet as polished offensively as Minter was. He had great footwork from what I remember.

Junior Braswell was a baller. The team around him wasn't great, but he had great skill at the guard position.

He could take over a game , and did on many occasions. Smooth and deadly from anywhere on the court.

Stephon Marbury's cousin as I recall. The two played against each other in Varisty when Ga. Tech came to town.

I did not know about Junior and Marbury. Billy Ross was a very good and just tough as nails player in his day . Beat Davidson almost single handed on more than one occasion. DJ Thompson might be my overall guard pick though.

Patterson would be on my Bball Rushmore.
I'd go Robinson, Patterson, Sims (almost went DJ Thompson from that era), and Gregory.

Don't forget Allan Price (from the late 60s), double digit scorer and rebounder for career. Wayne Duncan lead the team in scoring and rebounding all four years.

Tyson was just a winner , a competitor without peer. Talk about getting 110%. That’s him.

Thought this was about front court players not guards. At any rate wasn't there a guy sometime around 1980ish named Payton who was really good? I started in '82. I think they even started called Varsity Payton's Place? If memory serves we hosted and beat Duke and I was told he lit them up. Again, it was a couple of years before my time but people said he was great.

Can't win the tournament without great guard play. We decided to expand the convo.
